One week to go...and freaking out!

Recommended Posts

I'm not looking for encouragement, just reality responses.

I'm one week out from surgery and I'm second guessing if I have the will power to make the sleeve work for me. This morning I was doing great, ate a high Protein Bar and didn't drink Water until 30 minutes after....then I ate 1/2 sleeve of saltine crackers! What is wrong with me? Am I setting myself up for a massive failure? Is it possible for ME to lose 100 lbs with the sleeve?

Yes, I have been approved by a psychologist.

Yes, I did all the tests, went to all my appointments.

The 'hand to mouth' just doesn't listen to my brain. :(

Any honest replies will be so thankfully received.

@@mom2kandh I think we all have the same fears of failure. We all have tried many things before that did not work for us. I had my surgery 4 weeks ago today. I have fortunately not felt any hunger and after the first week I have been able to get all my fluids and Protein in. I am not having any trouble following my surgeon's diet at this point. I cook for my family and even though things smell good to me I have no desire to eat any of it. I hope this continues :)

Have faith in yourself and the procedure. It will work for you.

Good luck and I hope the next week flies by for you!

Summer

I am banking on the hunger being minimized. I have FEROCIOUS hunger that is the cause of this weight problem. I'm not a grazer or an emotional eater, I just honestly feel like I am starving 90% of the time. That's why I'm dreading pre op diet. But, I know that this tool will work for me, just like it will you, too. Stay positive. That's the very best thing you can do. Don't get caught up in the "what if's", but rather EXPECT to succeed and you will!

It is difficult after surgery working on changing your thought patterns. The surgery helps because I physically don't feel hunger , but my mind thinks I am always hungry. I don't know how many times a day I have to tell myself no and redirect to Protein food source if I feel I really need to eat something. It will take work and effort but if can be done. The mental work and disipline are hard work , but we can overcome our bad habits.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
