Frightening day

Recommended Posts

Some of you here my have heard about a series of shootings in north central West Virginia today. One of them was quite near my house. The first I heard about it was when I received an automated phone call from the county board of education, stating that all schools in the county were on lock down due to an active shooter in the community, and that the students and staff were safe. My son is a junior at one of the local high schools. My son had an appointment to get his flu shot after school, and I seriously considered not taking him. Students were allowed to leave school at the usual time, and I met my son at the health center where his pediatrician is located. There were more police in the area than I have ever seen. Even more than when President Bush was in town several years ago. It was actually reassuring to see them, but I made sure to lock up everything tight as soon as we got home. I eamailed my ex-husband to let him know what had happened and that Xander was safe. He lives in another country, but I was afraid he might see about it online and worry.

As far as I know, the man wanted for the murders is still on the run. I'll be sleeping with one eye open tonight, and startling at every creak.

The suspect has been found, dead. I think I can get some sleep now.

Thank God! That's terrifying! I used to work on a military base and I live near the Navy Yard. I've experienced that active shooter lock down and heightened security stuff. It's nerve wrecking! Glad you can get some sleep now. I pray for a peaceful night!

OMG! We live near Newtown, CT... the things that happen so close to our homes these days is frightening. Life was a lot simpler when I was growing up. We never heard of these things in the fifties or sixties.

Just before I retired from supervising housekeepers in a VA hospital, I came in to work at 7 am and the hospital had just come off of a lockdown, but the presence of federal officers was heavy. What had happened was that a distraught veteran was upset about something and thought he would shoot up the ER. We had a couple of housekeepers who were in the unit when that happened and then had to clean up his blood after he was subdued. I am so glad that you and yours are safe.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
