jblgirl 10 Posted December 2, 2014 Tomorrow is my egd. What's the purpose of it? Is it to assure the liver is small enough? How will I feel after? Does it hurt?
chicogirl3 17 Posted December 2, 2014 (edited) Your EGD is to check you're esophagus and stomach for any problems. It is very quick. They put a camera down your throat. You are asleep when this happens. My throat did not even hurt. In fact I could not tell anything ever happened. Some people do complain about a sore throat. It all depends on your doctor. jblgirl 10 Posted December 2, 2014 What sucks is its all rushed for me this week. My surgery is scheduled for Saturday. So if anything comes up, it'll be postponed.
jblgirl 10 Posted December 2, 2014 Is there anything that can be found in the egd to make them postpone?
mttopma 17 Posted December 2, 2014 I had my scope last week and my surgery is next week. It was simple no problems at all they did find a medium hiatus hernia. Good news is that the Dr will repair that during the surgery. I am pretty stinkin excited that I may be off of my acid reflux meds forever. Good luck to you

heynowkc 329 Posted December 3, 2014 (edited) An EGD was not on my order for pre-surgery testing I had to get done. I did get an upper GI though. I got my surgery date today and she told me over the phone that with the Upper GI the doc probably won't require the EGD. I am hoping not because I only have 2 weeks until surgery. I will find out tomorrow. Luckily it doesn't sound too bad based on what you guys are saying! Edited December 3, 2014 by heynowkc

Mz. NuNu 19 Posted December 4, 2014 @@Ladiec2 I was also drowsy after my EGD. The anesthesia did not wear off until 6 hours later.
Ladiec2 74 Posted December 8, 2014 OK..I had my EGD on Thursday. I didn't post immediately afterwards because I was bummed at the results. The surgeon found two erosions on my stomach and he told me that I probably couldn't have the surgery done until after they heal. He did two biopsies and I won't get the pathology report back until a couple of weeks. He said if they are even infections, I would probably have to be on medication for a month and off for a month…another EGD and then depending on the results from the 2nd one…that process might have to be repeated. I was so hoping that the surgery would take place in Jan or Feb. I suppose I have no other choice but to wait for the results from the pathology report. I'll be down until that happens. Mz. NuNu 19 Posted December 8, 2014 Ladiec2, so sorry to hear of your misfortune. After my EGD, I was diagnosis with bacteria on my stomach. I started 12/1 taking 2000mg of amoxicillin & 200mg of doxycycline a day. My surgery is schedule for 12/29. My sleeve doctor didn't say this would affect my surgery. Good luck, don't be down, think of this minor setback as a major comeback.
