I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight.

Wednesday I will be 6 weeks post op. I guess I slept wrong or something last night but today my back is killing me. I took Tylenol and it feels like it didn't even touch the pain.

I'm currently sitting in bed with a heating pack on my back and my feet up. I've had back spasms like this before due to a car wreck in 2011.

So my question is, is it okay to take 7.5 lortab in pill form or what could I take that is prescription strength that is okay.

I've got an appointment scheduled with my Doctor for next week. I'm trying to get in this week.

I know I can't take prescription strength IB profin which is what I'd normally take for this. Generally it'll knock out the inflammation within hours.

I just want to be able to stand up straight again. ATM I'm in so much pain that it hurts to even walk. :(

i don't know the answer to that but be careful of taking too much tylenol at once. I think that lortab also contains it.

I'm not sure when it's appropriate to use ice vs heat, but after I had back surgery a couple years ago an ice pack helped so much!!

Due to arthritis and spinal conditions, I take a 7.5 dose all the time if I need to up to every six hours. Been doing it since the day I came home from the hospital - almost a year, now. Never had a problem....it is ibuprophen that I can't take. That s**t nearly gave me stomach ulcers.....I was close to it.

Awesome. Thanks guys. I went ahead and took one and made sure to eat with it. I'm feeling much better. Between the heat, the hot tub and the lortab, hopefully I'll be back to normal tomorrow.

I have noticed that I don't have as much tolerance for medications as I used to.

I really hope you feel better soon. I take the generic version of lortab pills and have up to 3 times a day since day 4 post op. My surgeon said all of my meds could be kept in pill form and taken whole. Do watch how much Tylenol you are taking in a 24 hour period because Lortab also has Tylenol in it. Feel better soon!

The highest strength that comes in is 10/325, which is what I was taking after surgery, every 4 to 6 hours. The hydrocodone part (ie 5, 7.5, 10) should be taken as you need to relieve pain, while limiting side effects (sedation, Constipation, nausea). The Tylenol portion should be limited to 4000mg per day, so roughly 12 tablets per day. Do not take your pain meds more than prescribed. If they are not working, call your md to get something different. There is no shame in using these drugs if you are uncomfortable...don't fall into the trap of comparing your recovery with anyone else's. Stay ahead of your pain, and you'll have a much more pleasant recovery!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
