South Beach Dieters

Recommended Posts

Hey every one,

I have done some research about the various diets out there. I decided that the best one for me is the South Beach and its something that I think I can stick to for the long haul. I did Atkins with success before banding, but it wasn't something I could sustain for the long haul, and I eventually gained it all back. My cousin and her hubby are doing it (hubby is a sgt. in the army and is shipping off to Iraq in November) and I really need the structure of a diet. I'm thinking about joining the online program as well.

Are there any other South Beachers out there?

South Beach is a great plan for band patients to follow, especially those who don't have a lot of food intolerances.

I follow a low carb diet alittle bit from Atkins and alittle from south beach, I just do well on this way. I do not find this hard to do. My body does well on a high protien diet. I am not a sweet eater at all, dont like Pasta, , do love potatoes but stay away from them. I like meat. chicken, beef, and vegs.

I'm not doing South Beach, but definitely watching my carb intake. I KNOW that for me, eating carbs stimulate hunger for more carbs. I'd rather eat heathier whole foods.

South beach has a ton of new foods out there produced by Kraft. They have frozen meals, as well as breakfast bars and cereals. And they have these new on the go chicken wraps, plus they have 100 calorie snack packs like Cookies and chips as well. They look great and it will be a lot easier for me to grab one of those for lunch and breakfast, and have the snack packs around for the munchies, then just cook a dinner in accordance with the plan. They have some great recipe books that I bought, I just got a new one with slow cooker recipes. Hopefully it will help me shed the weight. I'll keep everyone posted as to how it goes.

I actually really like the cereal bars they make. The chocolate and peanut butter.. I have one every morning at work and it's filling!

I haven't tried the Cookies, but i did have the caesar chicken wrap and only ate 1 of the 2 in the box. It wasn't too bad either.

Hey thats great! I was planning on the Cereal bars for Breakfast and a frozen meal or the wrap for lunch. Then doing dinner at home and allowing myself 2 snack packs a day during the week. Hopefully that ought to keep me on the straight and narrow. Then on the weekends I might have regular food for breakfast and lunch for variety. (but still south beach approved meals)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
