Just wanted to stop by and say "Hi". I live in Littleton Colorado and work for the Douglas County Schools in Castle Rock. I have been researching this procedure for quite sometime and feel like now is the time in my life to take control of my weight. I have my first consultation with Dr. Chae on June 7th. I can't wait! I have Cigna and heard they are a real pain to deal with - but I don't have the cash to self pay. So I'll just have to go with the Cigna flow I guess!

Just as a side topic - my mother in law is flying in tonight and I am not happy about it at all - when I'm not happy I want to eat eat eat eat!:nervous

Talk to you soon!

I hear you......I will say a prayer for you about your insurance....I just got my lapband approved and went through a bunch of _ _ _ _ before I got approved. I definitely could not afford to self pay. I get my band on May 24th.....and I can hardly wait. Good luck and let us know how you are coming along. There are alot of people on this forum with tons of experience to share.....stay close and continue to read....it is the best way to become informed.

Hi! I am also in Colorado--in Pueblo--welcome and good luck with your band and your mother-in-law! I guess I am lucky because I absolutely love my in-laws. They are just the nicest people you could ever meet. I actually look forward to their visits cuz when they're here, I don't have to cook or clean--they do everything! My husband usually takes the week off when they come, but I always have to work, so I always come home to dinner and a clean house! They are awesome.

Well, I hope Cigna doesn't make it too difficult for you--I had to pay up front, and am now trying to get reimbursed from my insurance, and it has been a nightmare! They have screwed everything up from the start. It has been 6 months, and I have only gotten back $910 for the anesthesia portion, and they sent that check to the doctor instead of me, and I had to wait for them to send it to me. Its just a big mess, but they had said it would be covered before I had the surgery. My surgeon will not bill insurance anymore because he has had so many problems getting paid--now I know why! So, I had to pay everything up front and am now waiting, waiting, waiting for reimbursement. Good luck with your journey!

Hi! I am in Douglas County, too. I saw Dr. Chae on July 17th. I have been on this journey since February and have jumped through all of Cigna's hoops...only to have my doctor (Dr. Melniczek) tell me he was moving to another state. So...I started again with Dr. Chae. Here I go...back through another nutritional counseling. Hopefully, I won't have to go through another psych eval...because this process have made me crazy...:-) Good luck and keep in touch.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
