Preop diet starts in the morning

Recommended Posts

I can't believe surgery is in two weeks after years of waiting wishing ...preop starts in the morning ...time to kick this sugar habit! Anyone else have Mid December surgery?

Yahoo. Now listen here you may encounter difficult days and times when you question why. Just stick with it and keep moving forward . You can do this and have many standing here to cheer you on. :)

We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.

I too am scheduled for surgery on December 15th. I go to my Pre-op class at 8am Monday & start my liquid diet tomorrow. I am so excited & scared all at the same time. I have the craziest thoughts running thru my head! I am diabetic & stay thirsty all the time...so I'm thinking the liquid diet won't be so bad, but I remember waking up from knee surgery & the first thing I wanted was a drink! I even had a dream last night that I was in a desert with a pool... & no one would let me have any water! I know I'm nuts...so I just have to get my head in the ballgame! :)

Dmaddox. We had the same Dr as you. Good luck.

You will be able to drink after surgery. Just tiny sips though. They don't monitor how much you are drinking though if you are doing it through denton presby, which I thought was... odd that they don't monitor anything you eat or drink before you go home.

Are you ok with morphine for pain relief? Because that's what he gives, or diladid.

DMADDOX1...I am 20 days post op. I will say after surgery my mouth was so so dry I was miserable. I couldn't even talk. I was on ice chips for about a day then upgraded to Water. I also am/was diabetic and loved water. So that was hard. I haven't had a sugar reading over 115 since I got home from the hospital!! (In the hospital I was given steroids which I guess raise your sugars.) It will be tough but you can do it! Good luck to all the Decembers!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
