Scale vs Clothes

Recommended Posts

When you measure your progress, are you focused more on the scale or your clothes? In the past I did weight watchers and they focus a lot on the scale. But my size and the scale usually don't agree. My size is normally more a confidence booster.

I like to see my scale go down, but I also took my measurements the day before surgery and will be taking them monthly. I will be 5 weeks post op tomorrow and we took my measurements at my 4 week post op and I had lost a total of 26.5 overall.

I also have been trying on my "to small" for me clothes in my closet and it puts a smile on my face when something new fits!!

We need more than just the scale to monitor our progress. I also keep track of where I am at on the treadmill. When I see I have gone farther or faster makes me feel good too!!

I do take a look at the scale, but my clothes are my best 'measure of success' (no pun intended!!). I tried not to buy alot of clothes until I hit goal weight, and now I'm trying to get comfortable with it, hoping that I don't gain, or lose!!

I had to step away from the scale because I was driving myself crazy. Seriously! I try to focus on the clothes now. I try to only get on it every few weeks.

A timely post for me. I weigh in once a week...that's it. Every Monday am. Last two weeks I lost about 2 pounds each week. I was floored. I "felt" like it was a lot more. I've been watching my diet very closely, logging meals, and have not had one single thing I shouldn't have. I also started working out at a boxing/crosstraining gym 3 weeks ago and have been busting my tail. 4-6 times per week. Burn about 650-750 calories per session. Averaging about 600-700 calories per day mostly Protein. So you could see why I was a little bent when I didn't see the needle move like I was anticipating. I'm down just over 40 lbs. since my surgery on October 8. Was not expecting a stall this soon. Anyway, my clothing, without question, fits better. Have donated a lot already. Spoke to my nutritionist and a PA at the surgeons office today and was told to stay the course and focus on how things fit. So, I'm trying to do just that. I'm hoping like heck I have a good loss after this week.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
