How fast do you drink your liquids?

Recommended Posts

If you are able, without it hurting, to drink fast, is it okay to do so? I find myself gulping and it doesn't hurt but I was wondering if there was another reason for not drinking fast?

Thanks!

Fast and drinking are two words that simply do not go together for me. Like oil and vinegar - no can mix.

I am amazed that you can. I have to go slow or I start burping non-stop and I feel nauseous. All I have heard is to drink slowly to avoid gulping air as it causes gas pain. I would imagine drinking too fast would cause the opening from your pouch to your intestine to become bigger. Not a good thing or your meals will move through too fast but I am not sure.

I can not drink fast at all. Especially during or after exercise, it hurts. If it didn't hurt I would be certainly going it!

Drinking fast hurts like heck for me. I thought something was wrong. So it's sip, sip and sip. It's good to no that others are like me! I thought I was having a bad complication.

I think I drink faster than I should, I'm almost 2 weeks post op and I feel like liquids run right through me. But the minute I have some yogurt or something a little more dense, I get full faster. I can take like 3 good size sips of my Water and be fine but sometimes that 4th one will fill me up. I've totally forgotten about my surgery already and poured a small glass of milk (like maybe 4-5 sips) and chugged the whole thing and was in a little pain for drinking so much so fast but it passed within about 1-2 minutes and I was fine

I don't think we're the only ones who can have a huge sip though! My cousin could after her surgery ????

I have to take such small sips that I work all day on my Protein Drinks and still struggle! I have to take my medicine cups of Vitamins in three separate sips. I constantly feel full like I can't possibly take one more sip yet I have to force myself.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
