Good morning! I'm on day 6 of my two week pre-op diet. Unfortunately, you are going to have hunger pains, headaches and mood swings. That's just part of pre-op. That being said, there are, at least for me,things that help. For the headaches, I take Tylenol. Remember... no NSAIDS. Tylenol doesn't always work but it seems to take the edge off the headaches. As for the hunger pains, I drink hot Decaf tea. I can have artificial sweeteners, so I put some Splenda in it. For me, the tea eases the hunger pains. It doesn't always get rid of them, but it makes them easier to deal with. I drink a LOT of hot tea! Doing these things seems to help with the mood swings. Also, keep yourself distracted, if you don't focus on them it's easier. I read a lot, and I am still going to my Water aerobics class and will until I have to stop for my surgery. I don't know if you had to lose weight before you could qualify for surgery. I had to do a six month insurance mandated diet. I just keep telling myself that if I could do that to qualify for surgery, then I can certainly do two weeks of pre-op!!! :-)

I'm feeling very guilty right now... My doctor has his patients do a two week diet He allows us to have vegetables but today as a cook for my family Sunday dinner I ended up eating eating a chicken wingette. Then we went to a Christmas Model Train Show and I had a little bit of popcorn. I feel so guilty I don't know if I ruined possibility of surgery even though I still have 10 days to go.

I'm right there with ya Curvey8, like literally, as my surgery is the 18th also. I am on day three of the two week prep, and I am hungry, moody, but I am managing by staying super busy reorganizing closets, cleaning my garage, basement, ect. Tea helps, meditation with deep breathing has been my saving grace though. Keep your head up, this isnt forever, we can do this!

Hey, I just found this post while searching for other 12/18 patients. I just got the call that my surgery is at 7:45am tomorrow. I was overcome with a wave of fear and anxiety that this is actually happening, but once that passed I'm back to being excited. I feel a lot like I did before I went on my first roller coaster as a kid -- anxious, and wanting to go but afraid to, and once I did it the first time it was over before I knew it and everything was okay. I feel like that's how this surgery is going to be and that once we wake up it will be downhill from there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
