Stomach pain ... not horrible but consistent on day 9

Recommended Posts

Things have been going very well and I felt really good on days 7 and 6 but I am having trouble getting enough food in me over the last couple of days. It seems that every time I eat my stomach aches, not sharp pains just general crampiness. Today, I ate a tablespoon or two of pureed oatmeal, vanilla sugar free pudding, powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury vanilla shake with almond milk, and half a cup of pureed squash Soup. I would say it is the squash soup, because it is not creamed.. but my gut hurt before I consumed that and after. I kind of feel like my energy level and general pain was better three days ago than it is now. I eat very slowly so I am not sure what is the problem. I am trying to keep up with the Water, although I cannot say I am making 64 ounces. I will get 48 in today.

If it's an uncomfortable pain, you need to contact your Dr. I don't remember having pain or problems except I had terrible heartburn. Could it be that?

I was living on Cream of Mushroom Soup for weeks post-op. Nothing sat well with Frankensleeve... as in 1 teaspoon of anything (boiled egg, scrambled eggs, milk, pureed meat, any fruit or vegetable) would send him into cramping and seizing.

You mentioned a few things I know were hard on me for weeks or months post-op - oatmeal, pudding, Medical Quality Protein, almond milk, and squash - all of these are tough to digest.

At the time, I thought it was kinda ironic that processed foods went down pretty easy (especially peanut butter) but the healthy stuff took a lot of getting readjusted to.

Thanks for the feedback. It is much appreciated. I am going to stay away from everything I ate yesterday, except the Jello. At this point what I am feeling is spasm-like. So it may be gas related. I have only had one BM in the last 10 days and that was one week after surgery and that occurred with a load of laxatives. I do still have my gall bladder... but pain seems to be in the stomach. It doesn't surprise me that a healing stomach would hurt .. what surprises me is that it started hurting after a week. I feel like I am losing ground and it is upsetting.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
