Terrified of Vitamins

Recommended Posts

I'm 8 days post op and need to start my Vitamins. Per my surgeons office, I'm to take the Bariatric Advantage Calcium chewy bite. These are huge. How am I supposed to swallow them down (even chewed they're like caramel)? What about my new tummy and damaging it? Anyone else take these? OR what do you use??

Take little nibbles of the chewy Calcium, chew it a little, let it melt in your mouth

Wellness brand makes a liquid Calcium supplement if you need liquid until you can handle more.

I started with the Bariatric Advantage capsules at 15 days post op. I can swallow them ok, it takes a few seconds to make sure it is staying down, but haven't had any problems. I was taking them after Breakfast and dinner but now do Breakfast and lunch since I was tasting them in the middle of the night. Yuck!!

I wish I had a chewy caramel tasting Vitamin. I have my calcium chews and have no problem chewing them up and swallowing them.

I know it can be scary when you have to start something new with your tummy, but really there isn't any other way to know then to try.

Good Luck I hope they work out for you!!!

You just have to go slow and try it at your own pace. I started with tiny bites and now I'm chewing them up half at a time.

They aren't going to give you anything that you physically cannot handle so don't be afraid. Just take your time!

The first time they wanted me to take a pill in the hospital, I questioned them over and over. Surprisingly to me, I was able to swallow it just fine. Your throat and esophagus are still the same -- it's just your stomach that has changed.

Don't be afraid! You've come this far -- you will make it the rest of the way!!! :)

I was swallowing panadol minicaps from day 4, somac tablet from day 5 and a natures way mini women's mulitviatamin from day 12. I haven't started Calcium yes but will just find the smallest tablet I can get. I hate liquid vitamins and chewables. I must admit the first few times I was nervous. Good luck

Now if only someone could invent a Protein pill for me so I could get a decent amount of Protein that would be great. The Protein shakes make me gag!!

Stick with it each day gets easier some days I feel like I am wearing training wheels!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
