Ok, after reading these messages, I'm really getting nervous. I have surgery this Wednesday, 5/23. I love knowing what to expect, but have to admit that it scares me too !!! Is there anything else anyone can think of that they wish they knew ahead of time but didn't ??? Is there anything I should have here at home that I may have forgotten ????

Thanks !

You will do fine! You should have on hand Protein Drinks. That is the best thing to have for at least the first two weeks. They are easy on the stomach and keep your strength up. If you have been on the two week liquid diet prior to surgery then by now you know which ones you like and don't like. I have found mixing some of mine with UNsweetened Silk Soy milk adds a richness, sometimes I add some Water. I have the Unjury chicken Protein broth and mixed that way and heated up is the best for a soothing, filling meal. I am talking about the Silk in the dairy case. It has lower calories than skim milk and the same amount of protein. Good luck!

The gas-x really does seem to help.... last night finally had a decent night sleep - only got up 3 times... to stretch & take some more gas-x.

Have started back on my walking too - which has helped a little.

Tomorrow it's back to work- YUK !

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
