Walking shoes? Help

Recommended Posts

I am "late to the party" and wanted to add that it is important to have your step analyzed to determine if you need a neutral shoe or one which corrects for pronation. My son recommended I go to Fit 2 Run to help with being fitted by a specialist.

I need a neutral shoe, and for the past 6 months have been training for a half marathon, during which I will be walking. Brooks Glycerin 11 with orthotic inserts has allowed me to train for months without any discomfort or injury to my feet or legs. Which is amazing to me as I had surgery on both feet in 2013.

EBay has them at a range of prices. The 11 is last year's model, and I prefer them over the new for this year Glycerin 12.

It is not uncommon for individuals to lose a shoe size or two during weight loss. Many times their feet shrink in width. So when you buy a new pair of shoes, check your feet for the proper size.

I wear Asics because I tend to get plantar fasciitis and I find they have good arch support. Also the wide toe area works for me. They were recommended by a podiatrist.

Roadrunner sports has a great site that customs your needs to the right shoe. Had shin splints prior to them fitting my needs. Now can go farther and no splints.

I have sketchers cross trainers with the memory foam inserts. They are fab. I really like a cushy, well padded shoe though. I've attached a picture of my shoes since since they really reflect my personality. LOL. Shoes are so individual, you really need to try them on, and buy the ones that feel the best on you. Price be damned.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
