Hate food now

Recommended Posts

I'm almost 4 weeks post op and I have decided I don't like food anymore. I just drink Protein Shakes. I really can't stand the feeling that eating just a small amount of food gives me. Maybe it will get better but it's kinda sad.

It's a lot of trial & error but you will figure out what works for you. I am 2.5 months out & I still have some issues with food as well. Like I learned that I can't tolerate turkey still on thanksgiving :( Gardein products are great sources of Protein when you get to that phase of eating. RNY def takes the "enjoyment" out of eating & makes you do it for nutrition not enjoyment.

It definitely gets easier. I am I year post op and have no problem at all, so just enjoy what you can now and take each day as it comes. You may one day look back and wish for the days when you liked only Protein Shakes. Lol

I agree! I am 9 weeks post op with RNY and I really think it is all about trying what works for you in the moment. Foods that did not work 3 weeks ago are now working just fine. There are some foods that I am thrilled that I don't care about, mainly sweets. Yeah for me as that was my biggest problem before surgery. My grouch pouch is however loving chicken, and fish and ground beef. This week I get to even introduce raw vegetables and I am very excited about that as I am craving some salad. I know however that I need to take it slow and if something does not work, wait a week or so and try again.

I take every day as a new adventure and try not to push my pouch too far as I don't want to experience any dumping. I have been lucky so far!

Good luck and just take it one day at a time.

I tried turkey on Thursday. Came back up. I thought I had taken things slow and chewed well. Soups, puddings, and Protein Shakes I know are safe. Maybe later like yall say. Every week is a new challenge. This to shall pass. I'm just excited that I'm down 20 lbs since the procedure.

I struggle with food now too. Im almost three months out and its a struggle to find foods that actually sound appealing to me. Most of the time I just force myself to eat. Ive struggled with throwing up whatever I eat too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
