I'm having very similar problems I have spent most of my time post op in the hospital. I'm 5 weeks out and so nauseous that I feel like I have a permanent stomach flu. They are going to try TPN. How did TPN work out for you? Unfortunately my surgeon thinks it's psychological because after 6000 surgeries he hasn't seen this before. Does anyone have any advise?

Goalz- sorry to hear you are having a rough time. Are you able to eat or drink anything? Can you tolerate Water or gatorade? I got to a point I couldn't drink even an ounce of water. I was heaving and vomiting over 100 times per day due to nausea. In my case I got much worse when they did TPN. But that was my case so may very well help you. They doing IV or picc line for your TPN? My surgeons were also confused and said I was like the 1 in 10000 person. They had no clue why. Eventually they put a feeding tube in and I felt better but as soon as it came out I got sick again. Wasn't until they botoxed my pyloric valve and put the feeding tube back in that I got better long term. Basically it seemed my stomach never restarted after my surgery. Went thru 3 months of hell. But I am doing well now. What other symptoms do you have? We are here to support you and you will get better, hang in there. If you need someone to talk to you can PM me a number and I'd be happy to chat. Hang in there!

I'm not sure how to pm. My symptoms are very similar to the stomach flu. Nausea, dry heaves, lethargic, and tmi, but now that I'm trying phenergen suppositories, diarreah. I don't think I can last 3 months how can I get my surgeon to try what they did for you?

Just sent u a message if you want to chat. It's under conversations. Feeding tube was in for 2 weeks both time but that's the minimum and depends on how you respond to it. With mine they bypassed the stomach and went into my small intestine so I could get nutrients. I was feeling like a million bucks after a week or so. But about a week after they pulled it out I got sick again. So they redid and did the botox to my valve. That seemed to do the trick for me.

What tests have they run? Did they do a new Endoscopy and leak tests and all looks OK? That was my issue they couldn't find anything wrong and the surgery appeared to look good as well.. I finally switched surgeons and then I got better when he did the feeding tube stuff

Yeah I had IV nutrition, then picc line, and for me neither worked. Again that's just me so don't get discouraged

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
