Can/Does flying adjust your restriction?

Recommended Posts

LOL; maybe it's just wishful thinking. I'm off tomorrow for my first flight since banding.

Any input you guys?

I've heard that flying does affect the band. Personally, I can't say if it does or not because I'm usually stressed when flying and that tightens my band all on it's own! Because of that, I never eat while on the plane---just drinking Water.< /p>

that is so interesting.........I was in a really good mood yesterday and had a great day. I could eat so much more than usual since my 2nd fill. Now today was really stressful and I could barely eat. Restriction is a very funny thing.

Flying does tighten me up for a day or so. It's not that big of a deal if I'm prepared for it.

I've flown back and forth from GA to CA 4 times and 1 trip to London and back since the band and no extra restriction :)

I have to be SUPER careful when flying. Esp if I try to eat while in mid-air. No fun. I'm a bit of a sweller, so I think the tiny movement of the band makes it tough. I'm the sort that can't eat after a fill or unfill because my sensitive tissue gets angry being messed with.......

What reason did you have to have the band removed if you do not mind me asking?

Sorry this for Furelle

You were at the weight that I am now and you are at the weight I want to be. I was wondering if you have a big problem with loose or hanging skin, it does not look like it in your picture. I hope I don't but I have been fat for a long time. Thanks.

Wow. I've never noticed any restriction while flying. I live overseas, and flights "Home" average about 13 hours. If I'm flying in the area then flights average 2 to 4 hours. Hm.. I wish I could have extra restriction. Somehow, when I fly I get ravenous, I just want to EAT, EAT, EAT.

I always get tight for about a day and a half after flying, but like Katherine, I am usually stressed before I fly. There are a number of older threads about this topic. It might be worth a search if you need more input.

Have flown quite a lot....never set off any security alarms and never had any restriction problems at all.

Flying AND stress tighten me up!

My dog had to have a large tumor removed from his bladder last week and I was on liquids for 9 days!!

When I flew to Houston last Fall I was on liquids for the whole day of both flights.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
