Fat apron/belly hangover question

Recommended Posts

Kind of weird and gross, but here goes :)

I'm having surgery 1/19. I currently carry most of my extra weight in my belly. It hangs over and it just gross. I understand that I will never, ever have a flat belly unless I have skin removal surgery. My question is, is there a way to minimize the floppy skin? Wear a cincher? Douse myself in lotions?

My doctor said I am still young enough (40) that my skin will likely bounce back in my face and arms... She said to moisturize. Ok, I can handle that :) and I also know that as I lose weight I will actually fit into undergarments that will help me look thinner under my clothes (spanx etc) just really worried that my floppy belly skin will be out of control!

Goes without saying that my main goal of surgery is my health. Looking awesome is a bonus ;)

I too am getting surgery and have the same issues that you have (and I'm 41). I have bought a package of Laser Lipo treatments from my local spa, it helped that they had a pre black friday sale of 1/2 off. I have had a few friends go there and get them, and they seem to tighten up skin nicely. Of course, they won't be a fix for folks like you and I, but it will help a little. I will also be getting them done on my arms, legs, and booty. I probably wont get them until feb/march ish, but I can keep you in the loop to let you know how it works.

I'm 41 and have excess skin or an apron. There is not much More I can do about it except when looking back, I think I might have benefitted more by wearing compression garments regularly during my losing phase and I should eat clean more consistently now.

I was a belly fat carrier as well & getting down in weight the only issue I am really having 3 months out is the area around my csection scar. I do notice my skin on my belly is smooshy. However Maidenform's self expression line is only $22 for a tank top that brings it all in where it needs to be, they also have underwear at a decent price. But it's true moisturizing will help with the overall elasticity & appearance of your skin - however it may not suck back in like you'd like, only time will tell.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
