I had surgery as op. I had the surgery around 10am, spent some time in recovery, and left at about 2pm.

In admitting at 6:00 am and out at noon...I was a little nervous about the outpatient thing at first, but we located the nearest hospital (I was self-pay, so we traveled out of the area) and we had my surgeon's cell number, just in case.

All was well and I rested comfortably at the condo we rented.

I am doing the exact same thing:cash pay, traveling out of town and I am doing a hotel (Priceline.com)! How long were you off work?

Surgery at 8:30 am at home by 12:30.pm. I too was worried about outpatient even though my doctor is Chief of Staff at one of the largest hospitals here in the South. And founded one of the largest bariatric programs here. But as he explained most of the surgeries for VSG are being done more and more outpatient and in a year they'll almost all be preformed that way. He does the leak test before he even sews you up. Six days postop now for me and I'm feeling fabulous. First couple are rough, but Walk, WALK, walk for 10 minutes every two hours especially that first 24 hours and it helps!! Praying you have a safe surgery.

@@VGB, I am a telecommuter, so I had it easy...I had surgery on a Thursday and went back to work 1/2 days the following Monday (worked a full day on Tuesday). That week I got tired very easily, so it was nice to only have to put in a few hours a day. I would say if I had to get up, get dressed and go to an office every day, I would have needed a week to 10 days off.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
