Catheter?....

Recommended Posts

My bladder was backed up to about 750ml from the saline in the IV's they had me on. No desire to take a leak, just a light pressure. Even when I tried it wouldn't start.

I took a hit every 10 minutes from the pain pump for about 30 min before they started the catheter. So no pain going in. Within about 10 minutes about 600ml had collected in the bag. They kept it in overnight and removed it in the morning. They wouldn't let me leave until I'd pissed normally and proved it to them in a piss bottle. Not a problem.

Catheters really aren't bad - maybe I was lucky, but I didn't even feel any pain when they pulled it out. A little pain the first time I peed without it, but not much, and none after that. Compared to the pain of standing up and walking - the catheter is honestly a blessing, especially when you consider that you'll be getting a LOT of IV fluids during and after surgery.

I had a catheter when I gave birth to my daughter. It was a bit weird when they took it out and the first time I peed was odd as well. But there wasn't any pain while I had it in, taking it out, or peeing afterwards. I'm glad they said you didn't need one! Hope it stays that way, but nothing to be afraid of if you do!

don't think I had one in..... perhaps it was during surgery but I never knew of it.

No cath was needed for my sleeve I wasn't under enough plus being NPO you won't really produce much urine until after you have had IV Fluid. just make sure you ask your surgeon if a cath is really necessary

I was nervous about the catheter before hand as well. Turns out it was a good thing. They put it in during surgery so I wasn't really present. After the surgery for the 20 hours I was in the hospital I didn't have to worry about getting up to pee. It was a bit painful to move around a lot and because of the catheter I didn't have to worry. When she pulled it out I was probably more worried about a hot nurses hand on my piece than what it felt like coming out. It did not hurt coming out, I only felt a little pressure. Hope this helps.

The first catheter I was out for, however, because I could not go cathed me again. I was wide awake and scared. Yes it was uncomfortable at first, and hurt a bit, but overall not that bad. It will be over before you know it.

Good news! I had my last preop appt and the Dr said I should not need a catheter. He said they only put one in if something goes wrong or if it seems necessary. WHEW!

They'll stick it in and pull it out without you even knowing.

I had my surgery 2 2/2 weeks ago. No catheter during surgery and they told me as long as I could pee without it, I wouldn't need one. Talk about motivation. I said give me the urinal (they wanted to measure output) and get out of my way. I walked to the bathroom and gave them all I could.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
