I've always liked to cook and bake. But my enjoyment of it has neither waxed or waned. I do watch more shows about bad food like Diners Drive-ins and Dives (despite my dislike of Guy Fieti as a person).

I used to love to cook. Now I don't even want to think about it. Not good because the healthiest foods require at least some planning and preparation. I need to work on it.

I've made a 7 up cake and a German chocolate cake from scratch and I haven't eaten either of them. But I enjoyed baking them.

same with me. I have an extreme dislike for guy fieri yet I've watched his grocery games and dinner drive in and dives. But I absolutely love Alton brown and since my RNY I have watched every episode of cutthroat kitchen.

I still enjoy cooking very much. Especially, the prep work which has a calming effect on me. It's odd to me, but I'm not interested in the same kind of food that I was before the surgery. I expected to be in mourning but I'm not. Reading labels, tracking and weighing everything has totally changed the way that I see food. I'm excited about some great clean and Paleo recipes that I've saved for future use. ..now if the rest of the household were excited. .....

i do find that now I buy more high end, organic and free range foods. I will try new foods because I know I can't eat much of it anyway. lol

I am 4 weeks post op and honestly I've never enjoyed cooking so much in my life. My family is so happy but it's just ironic. Before the surgery I would barely cook and would order take out most of the time for me and the kids but now I am cooking daily and good stuff too. I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that I still haven't returned to work yet and I used to fill my days with eating so now it's cooking stuff I can't even eat.

I still love to cook! I actually think I'm a better cook since having surgery. I was responsible for all of the Desserts for Thanksgiving dinner...I made lemon meringue pie (for the firs time), sweet potato pie, apple pie and red velvet cupcakes. It's comforting to know that I now have the ability to eat what I like and be able to stop eating when I'm full. A few bites and I'm full. I'm eating leftovers today, then I'm done with it! lol My fridge is now empty (I never buy regular groceries close to the holidays because I know there will be so much leftovers from the dinner). I will go to Wholefoods on Saturday and pick up my regular stuff. I'm always looking for new healthy recipes to cook. Since I live a lone, I reduce the recipe to 4 servings and put the rest in zip lock bags and freeze it.

I DO still LOVE to cook. "Not being able to cook!" was one of my pre-surgery concerns/anxieties/fears.

Being single, and post-VSG, I don't cook big meals as often as I used to, but I want to keep up my cooking skills. When I feel like 'gettin' down' and cooking, or even trying new recipes I see, I do it and give practically all of it to friends [like yesterday, though I had some of all I fixed, including some starches/carbs/pie].

Having the VSG hasn't affected my ability, nor love for cooking. I cook. I still watch The food Network, etc. It's worked out fine. Thank goodness!

I have always cooked, and last night at dinner it dawned on me why I'm so fat.... I eat AS I cook. I have to taste to season. By the time dinner was done I couldn't even eat with them. I was already full! Where before I would still fill my plate and eat with them. So I need to learn to QUIT eating as I cook

I am in the same boat kikicoates. The same boat. that tasting stuff is crazy. The best part is that we are already full and can not take another bite. I started eating my snack before cooking now. It helps me out a lot.

I always enjoyed cooking. But now, I am more interested in flavorful foods. I am looking into growing my only little herb garden. And sometimes foods with a little kick to it. I am also hooked on storage containers and freezer bags. My hubby says that I am food hoarder, so be it. I have containers on the left side of the fridge with homemade sauces and leftovers. I also fell in love with roasted brussel sprouts,butternut squash and sweet potatoes. I like cod too. It is so meaty and I make a cream sauce with spinach, delish! I am always pinning recipes on Pinterest. I am also hooked onthat because it helps me eat slower, lol.

I still love cooking, although I actually enjoy simpler foods much more than before surgery. So far I can tolerate very spicy foods, which great, but I seem to gravitate toward a lower-fat Protein with a light sauce and a few spices.

I just moved on to the solid food phase and I'm adding vegetables back in, so the variety exploded even more, although I haven't felt deprived at all since surgery.

Me too asked my psychologist about it and he said that it's not unusual. He said since I always liked food and can't have it I still want to be around it.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
