This Has Been Quite a Day!

Recommended Posts

I started today by making the hour long drive to Killeen to take my soon to be daughter in law to her first OB appointment as my son couldn't get off work and Jackie wanted to have a bonding time with me. The appointment was very exciting as we got to see the baby on the ultrasound. Jackie was astonished with how much the baby was moving around. After lunch, (you can do a lot of bonding over Olive Garden's Soup, salad and breadsticks!) I had a message to call Jordan. Now, I happen to know that Jordan is the one who sets up all the surgery appointments so I was very excited. I figured with Thanksgiving being in just two days and the pre-op diet being two weeks that he was calling to tell me my surgery wold be towards mid to late December. What I didn't expect was for Jordan to tell me that my pre-op diet started NOW! It seems that I'm having surgery on December 10th! So, no Thanksgiving dinner foe me (except green Beans that are on my pre-op list). Also, no eating at the family reunion (except salad with no dressing but a little vinegar). And did I mention that my sister from North Carolina is coming to visit and she arrives three days before my surgery! And she always brings pulled pork BBQ!!!. But I have a December 10th surgery date so its all good! Besides, I happen to like my Protein shakes! :D

I'll be honest with you. On the liquid diet with my surgery, I didnt follow it like I should of. The doctor just looked at me and smiled and said he knew I was hard headed. I missed my food!! I should of drank more Water and tea for my liquids, but I went out on a date and had dinner, and there were a couple times that I had dinner with my brother.

Well, I found out that my surgery date and pre-op at about 2:00 yesterday afternoon and ended up going out for Mexican food last night and then I sampled the pies that my daughter bought from the Culinary School. But I woke up at around 4:15 this morning ready to get started. I have a history of very fatty liver and pancreas so I know that the pre-op is particularly important for me to follow. I'm just relieved that I managed to improve my labs values enough to only have to do two weeks. When I started this back in May, the surgeon told me that I would probably have to do the pre-op diet for three weeks!

That is so awesome! I wish you all the luck with your preop diet. I have my preop appointment on 12/4 and surgery 12/19 so I am right behind you!

I have to admit that today hasn't been fun. I take a Water aerobics class from 8-9 AM weekdays. This morning, by 8:20, my stomach was growling! It's going to be a long two weeks but worth every minute of pre-op!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
