I am just starting this process and this forum has been so helpful! I have an initial consult with the surgeon next month and I know that I have a 6 month physician-supervised diet required by my insurance. On the one hand, I think hey, that's not too long...but then I read more and I'm suddenly impatient at the notion of those 6 months and want it to be done tomorrow lol.

I don't know anyone personally who has had wls. My husband is so supportive, but I won't be telling the rest of the family any time soon (if at all). I look forward to making some connections with people here to share the journey with.????

Welcome. It looks like someone besides me is up thinkin' when they ought to be sleepin'.

I started at 235 also, with the same goal of 135. I had a three month supervised diet during which I lost 22 pounds. I have lost another 43 since then, but came to a screeching halt three months ago. I am not giving up. 65 down and 35 to go. I can't imagine having those 65 pounds back.

My first year is coming in close - just three weeks away. What a year it has been. I have gone from a size 24 to a 12/14 and had three closet flushes. I can cross my legs. Not only do I sleep better, but my bed feels larger!

Good luck on your journey. Six months is going to pass whether you have surgery or not, so enjoy the ride. It will go quickly enough, and you will learn new skills along the way. I have (in the past) let newbies know that opinions and tact vary. Just take what you need and throw the rest away! I wish you good luck and good health.

Hi!

I've only just joined this forum and its such a fantastic support system!

I too am just starting this journey, I've met with a surgeon who I liked instantly, but I need to wait until end of October 15 before my insurance waiting period is over and they'll cover it, so I go back to the surgeon early September for all the pre-op appointments and tests and all that.

So I completely understand the impatience of just wanting to get it done now!

On the upside of that I guess is that can do our research here and learn from people who have had the surgery and pick their brains.

Good luck to you!

I was especially grateful right after surgery, everyone was so helpful giving advise and keeping my spirits up! Good luck to you, read a LOT about WLS in this forum, you too will be an expert on the subject!

Hey everyone!

I've been excited about surgery since my first consultation on October 6, but am now starting to get nervous. The surgery should be in January. Today, I scheduled the egd for December 12 and I was like... "this is really happening". So although I truly want the surgery and believe it to be the right thing, I'm nervous for the first time. I'm not making time for exercise. I'm getting my Water intake, but am eating way more than I should. I meet with the dietician on Dec 5 for the last time, and am sure I will not have lost weight.

I don't know. Just having anxiety. I don't even know what to plan for. Do I need to get some containers for Protein shakes? I wish there was a checklist...

Thank you for contributing to such a wonderful forum and offering up advice and experience. It is truly appreciated!

Olivia

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
