Delaying fill or no fill

Recommended Posts

I have been doing pretty good post op ... Not feeling too hungry and steadily losing weight. I have nothing in my band.

My question is if I am progressing nicely will the nurse practitioner tell me I don't need a fill. I would prefer to wait as long as possible to avoid stuck episodes etc. but is this wise or even feasible?

Has anyone had success without fills or very few fills?

I've only had one fill. It was about 6 weeks after surgery. I've never really depended on the band to stop me from eating a certain amount of food. It does slow me down. I have to chew and be careful or I get stuck a lot. I then have time to decide I've had enough and stop eating. Over time, my body and brain have adjusted to living on less.

Every doc or nurse will be different. Mine didn't want to fill because I was losing so well. Others base it upon how much you're eating.

SOME People don't even get fills & are satisfied & doing good others like me know when I am starting to eat a bit more than I usually do , then again just for myself my Surgeon does the barium swallow & fluro just to make sure the band is fine & still working so when I drink the stuff for the barium we know whether my band is loose or just right the last time I went in we watched it stop twice going down so no fill for me, that's just me.

Thanks for your replies. I guess I will find out what my surgeon's office's theory is next Wednesday!

If you don't need a fill, don't get a fill. But the moment you start reverting to pre-band ways of thinking, you need that fill. Don't tough it out or you will not be using your band to its full advantage. But I like the idea of not getting a fill until you know you need one...because it will give you somewhere to go. My personal philosophy is to lose weight on the lowest fill level possible so I have somewhere to go when needed (in terms of fill).

My first fill happened without question. Same with my second and third. My fourth? He wasn't as sure as I thought I was. So, I got a half fill. I'm NOT getting one in December.

I am in the same boat but as soon as I'd be getting a fill I would be leaving the state for about a month...... So I'm scared to get my first fill and run in case it causes issues. Given my recovery has been more on the rough side I figured I'll wait till I get back from my holiday travels.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
