Routine is key for me! I eat 4-5 small portions every day. It keeps the cravings down and prevents me from overeating. I also keep my 'meals' at the same time every day to keep myself in a good rhythm. It's worked for me so far as I have only accidentally over eaten once or twice and it helps me to eat enough to keep my energy up. You should definitely be able to feel when you've over eaten. The times I've done it I've thrown it all back up less than 10 minutes later. My nutritionist advised to keep every meal under 20 minutes. It helps to not pick at things after you know you're done. I usually do it in less time. I know exactly how much to eat now since I eat the same food every day.

My surgeon's office gave us a schedule of when to eat and approximately how much to eat each time. We also both track our food in dailyburn so that makes it easy to see if we're starting to stray off-plan. As for the meds, I went and bought two of those pill containers that have am and pm sections for every day. I fill each of ours up at the beginning of the week and it keeps us on track.

I do measure everything, but I don't always eat all of it. I eat slow and when I start to feel full I stop. I look at the measurement as a maximum, not as a challenge! Besides, my doggy loves it when I leave her a couple bites!

I measure as well. For now I do 1\4 cups of Protein and the same for the veggies. I don't have a dog but I do have 5 crumb snatchers.

I am only one month post op, and I am doing two Protein shakes and one small meal a day. Somedays I do one shake and two meals (even though my doc wants me doing two shakes) I get all my Protein in and my liquids and I am losing so I figure I must be doing something right. ;)

I do measure out everything I eat. This way I know that I am getting in all my protein. My doc has me tracking my calories, protein and sugars. So measuring everything helps me with that too.

I have to make sure to plan plan plan. That is how I get everything in. I have forgotten my Vitamin once here and there (I have to take them twice a day). But like today we had plans after picking my daughter up from her half day. I had planned to have my meal at lunchtime since we would be out and about. My daughters eye brow appt got cancelled so I had to reschedule at another Ulta here in town which put us not near anywhere I wanted to eat at. :( Originally we were going to Chik Fila so I could get the 4pc grilled chicken nuggets. So I had to change everything around, I was miffed at first but then I was like hey Sh*t happens and rolled with it. I ended up bringing a Protein Shake with me and drank that at Panera bread while hubby and daughter ate. Didn't really bother me. Then I just had my yummy ricotta bake for dinner and I was all set. but like I said in the beginning.......I plan ahead because if we get stuck out somewhere it is not as easy to just run into a restaurant and grab something like before. Maybe once I am further out, but for now not so much.

I measure most of the time. The only way to be sure I do not over eat.

It works

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
