My birthday, and surgery is day after tomorrow

Recommended Posts

Today is my 55th birthday! All 3 of my girls have come together from around the country to be here for my birthday and my surgery! My RNY is Tuesday, Nov. 25! I'm beginning to get a little nervous. And the food commercials on tv have been absolutely killing me! My youngest got pizza last night....smelled so good. Starting to worry if I can really follow through and make these needed changes.

@@jomamacita7 Lucky you to have all your girls home!! You can do it -- just rest and let them take care of you as I'm sure you've taken care of them for many years!

I am having my surgery tomorrow nov.24th and I've been preparing meals for my family and today I made some turkey meatloaf and mashed potatoes and gravy and it was tough because it smelled so good but I can't turn back now! I acutally have felt great physically on this pre-op diet. The first three days I was a little sluggish but after that I've been amped up for this new chapter in my life. Just be strong and hold onto all the beautiful reasons why you decided to get this done. It's so worth and you owe it to yourself to do this for you first and also for your daughters too. A happier and healthier you means everyone reaps the benefits. You got this stay strong. Best of wishes to you.

Happy birthday and congratulations on your upcoming surgery and the birth of the new you! That's great that your girls are there to support you and help you.

I had my surgery on Nov 10th and trust me, you won't be tempted with food commercials or what others around you are eating! I have such little appetite now, I never would have believed it before! The thought of something greasy like pizza totally turns my stomach and it was my most favorite food ever 2 weeks ago!

Update: I'm doing well. Was really hurting those first few days, but it's eased up a lot and now I'm just a little sore. I'm able to eat and drink without difficulty. No problem getting in my Protein and Water. Had my first follow up with my doctor a couple of days ago and he says everything looks good. Anyway, I'm feeling lots better and am moving around easier. Oh, and food has not really bothered me. I mean it looks good, sounds good, but I can do without it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
