It depends on your medical team's recommendations. The rule of thumb is Protein, then veg, then carbs but many are allowed mashed potatoes once they get to the soft food stage.

I was sleeved 9/23 ,I've had mashed.potatoes a couple of times, couple of bites, try to get in Protein first, but still allow for couple bites of starch once a week maybe. I have found at 8 weeks out I can eat most anything but not a lot of any thing

So, how was your tummy at 3 weeks? I'm having an awful time with mine. Nothing seems to set well except liquids. I can deal with the discomfort if I have hope that I will be able to eat most anything at 8 wks.

Yes give it time, your tummy needs at least 6 weeks to recover..Don't push much at 3 weeks. I was JUST trying soft at 3 weeks

I've had potatoes alot, when my sleeve has been angry they are one of the few things that I have handled, with no problems at all. But like all things now, eat in moderation

I did mix unflavored Protein Powder in mashed potatoes during my pureed stage. But overall, I avoided all white carbs (potatoes, rice, bread) until I was at goal. And even now they are a rare thing....maybe 2-3 times/month. (but ask me again after this Thursday ???? )

I've been living on mashed potatoes and Protein powder during my puree stage. In addition to tuna and refried Beans.

I probably will not be eating mashed potatoes after I am able to eat other foods.

I was able to have potatoes during pureed stage. I use the tiny Yukon gold potatoes an boil and mash them myself; no butter or milk and I limit myself to an ounce or less and only after my Protein. As for Pasta, rice and bread..none of that until 6 months post-op per my instructions.

My doc says no potatoes or corn or carbs (doesn't include healthy beans) till goal. Carbs slow or stop weight loss

My program does not encourage carbs until goal is met. I am 3 months out and I have had carbs on occasions. My NUT said the carbs slow down the weight loss.

My nutritionist's sentiments exactly. I try to keep my carbs under 40 net per day. I'm a carb addict, so it's best that I just avoid them altogether.

As mentioned earlier...everything in moderation.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
