"Does the Patient Fail the Procedure or Does the Procedure Fail the Patient" Dr. Mitchell Roslin

Thank you for sharing this. My sister is beating herself up because she has had a significant regain after RNY. This will help her understand the reasons and mechanisms.

I think the patient can overeat excess calories and begin to regain weight

and I also think the WLS can have issues and I also think the combination of patient and WLS surgery

can also cause weight gain back. To gain weight, we must eat more calories than we can burn off. This

is how I got super morbid obese. I wish the newer patients would not put so much (the WLS MUST work) while I

dont change a thing attitude. Some are finding that WLS is not easy and its not a miracle. It will help the person

but the person must also make changes. I know that as I am talking about myself.

Good point CG. Anyone altering their body with WLS needs to know that it is also a mindset change. Can't stay the same and have big changes.... For long. After the " honeymoon" ends, there are choices to be made

????I'm thankful

@@Julie norton @@☠carolinagirl☠ true the bariatric surgery is not the easy way out. it takes hard work and dedication to changes those long-ingrained thoughts and behaviors that led us to become M.O. in the first place.

When I had my gastric bypass some 11-years ago, there were none of the support systems and education from a treatment team (nutritionist, psychologist, etc) to help a patient succeed. The surgeon told me, "I do the surgery. The rest is up to you."

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
