Outpatient Sleeve Surgery Yesterday

Recommended Posts

Well I made it. Not as bad as I feared, but not as easy as I hoped. I had the surgery at 8:30 AM and then was home by 12:30 PM. I've been walking every 10 minutes every two hours for the last 24 hours. Does anyone know how much longer I should continue to do this or is it just for the first day home? Also I'm tolerating the nausea very well, I am sucking on ice chips and sipping zero Powerade. Surgeons office suggested starting the clear Protein Shakes today, but I'm thinking about just keeping to clear broth Clear Liquids did anyone else do this for the first couple of days?

Get your Protein in. It's important and so is walking. Walk as much as you can. It seems to get things settled in your body. My doctor said 30 minutes a day at least for the first 2 weeks. They have since moved me up to 45 minutes.

congrats and way to kick butt postop! I did clear broth, tea and Popsicles 1st 3 days. Added drinkable yogurt, Protein shakes and cream Soups and broth with added unflavored Protein Powder day 4. I had no gas pains, but found that walking helped the bloated feeling I got everytime I drank or ate. No reason to ever stop walking.

@@Thenewnic Truthfully I didn't. I was not taking enough nutrients in to feel like I should be out even walking at that point. I was only focused on healing and figuring out my new tummy. I know some people do and are ok with it. I still felt "Weak" plus my family was gone at work, school ect so I didn't feel safe leaving the house alone. A couple weeks of rest and recuperation are totally acceptable. You just had surgery. I know after my c-sections nobody expected me to run a marathon. You have plenty of time for that. If you feel well enough physically and mentally to walk then go for it! I didn't have any of the gas pains or anything to NEED to do walking like that.????

Thank you all!!! I did have horrible gas pains. I couldn't even take a deep breath because my shoulders hurt like the devil. Walking helped!!! I'm just going to try for 30min a day. Today the gas pains aren't as bad, but the incision sites are sore...walking seems to help them also.

@@haleytrim I just got the 0.N.E coconut Water brand from Walmart. It doesn't have anything added just coconut water. Be careful if you go with other brands to look at the nut info because some add a lot of sugar ect...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
