I HAD MY SURGERY

Recommended Posts

I was lucky enough not to have any gas or shoulder pain. I felt miserable enough as it was and it was at least 3-4 days before I could keep anything down. I did read on another forum to help get rid of gas pains to tilt your butt higher than your chest it will help you ummm fart and get it it. Not sure of it works but worth a try if you are in pain.

It does get better. I had my surgery three weeks ago tomorrow.

The first hour after waking up was my worst. I prayed the whole hour and pushed that pain button over and over. I started watching the clock to see when I could push it.

My first thought was, "What did I do to myself?"

But then I thought with even as bad as I felt right then, both of my parents have had heart bypass surgeries and what I was feeling was nothing compared to how they felt after having their chests cracked open! It was then that I knew I did the right thing.

I had the sleeve to keep from following my parents footsteps and having heart surgeries in the future. My pain at that moment was worth the possibility of not knowing the pain of heart bypass surgery!

Amen. You still have to watch the fat and cholesterol intake. But I agree. I didn't want a stroke, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc. Taking medicine for all these different medicines and still eating myself dead. I didn't really get it until after the surgery. I look at my plate and compare to the plate of food I use to eat. What a difference.

T - Another way to know how much you used to eat is to look at your grocery bill. We have actually had money left over each week since I had surgery!!! We're actually saving money now.

Plus -- I was able to get off of my diabetes medication (already) and cut my blood pressure pills in half!!! We aren't paying for diabetes meds anymore and the bp meds won't have to be refilled as often.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
