beachgurl84 456 Posted November 22, 2014 Well, this past Wednesday as planned, I had my surgery. Gastric sleeve. OH MY GOD I WAS MISERABLE!!! We read all these stories about success and how wonderful everything is after the surgery. I never thought about how miserable I would be waking up after surgery. You can't move, you can't drink, can't stretch, nothing. But, as the days go by, things get a little easier. I have a long way to go but I'm recovering nicely. I'm 4 days post op and I'm able to move around on my own for the most part as long as it doesn't involve bending over. I'm down 15 lbs since starting my Preop diet 5 days before surgery. It's funny because I keep thinking this recovery would be so much easier if I were skinny. Oh the irony. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

SuperDave 1,115 Posted November 22, 2014 Same experience here. I was absolutely miserable waking up from surgery. It was much worse than I had expected. I'm even told I had a few not so nice things to say about the whole thing, though I don't remember! But, after 4-5 days I felt SO much better. My male recovery nurse was like "who lied" and I said everybody! Everybody said this doesn't hurt! They all f***ing lied! He was laughing which I didn't find amusing in the least. Then he told me ok now don't cuss...if I could I wound have punched him in the throat. Luckily he gave me something that kicked the pain almost instantly so then I could have kissed his face...that recovery room is a dangerous job! The narcotic gave me a Migraine and didn't work like it was suppose to, which really wasn't a surprise. The meds they sent me home with were the only thing that provided some relief. The hospital staff commented that every bariatric patient is surprised about how painful the first day turns out to be. I thought there was something wrong with me because I was in (initially) so much pain. I kept repeating to myself, "this too shall pass". Which, is true because you do feel so much better in time. I was in the hospital for two nights and then went home alone. The first two days alone, I found it impossible to get up from laying down. I would roll myself off the coach onto the floor and walk on my hands and knees to the bathroom. The third day home I slept sitting up and made sure to take a pain reliever before trying to get up. Thankfully my husband decided to join me. I couldn't have done this without him. Has anyone else had trouble with blood pressure? kimpossible67 608 Posted November 22, 2014 I think everyone ends up with one challenge or another. Mine went well, tolerated little pain and gas. But I had such nausea! Mine all went to hell when I got home and tried to juggle fluids and Protein into a stomach that didn't want it. I was overwhelmed to say the least. I'm being medicated for it. Hope it passes soon. My bp is really good but due to the fluids they pumped in me for surgery they came running in my room during the night. Of course they woke me up. My blood pressure had went way up (didn't ask) and they gave me something thru my IV. I would imagine it's all the fluids they put in you. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
