Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I went shopping at Kohl's. I was just looking at clothes and buying a gift. Of course I head right for the clearance rack. I'm out of habit, pulling out 2 x size. I can't believe how big they were! I've always hidden myself in loose clothing until over the last few months I've been trying to wear more form fitting clothes.

So I go to the regular size racks just for fun. I'm looking at the xl and thinking "I think this might fit!"

When I left the house I grabbed a sweater that was a 2 x because it was very cold. I got in the store and got overheated. I took off my coat and eventually I came upon a full length mirror (I don't own a full length mirror). I looked ridiculous! My skinny jeans were baggy, the sweater was just awful not to mention my underwear were baggy, lol. I looked so frumpy.

Time to go through the pile of "I can wear this in 10 lbs sizes."

I just can't believe how different I look and feel in just 8 months. Wow!

I asked about using a straw for the same problem. You may want to call your surgeons office and see what the nutritionist says. Mine said as long as I wasn't getting gassy from it, it was fine to use a straw. MUCH easier to get in your fluids!!! Congratulations on having your surgery. Very soon you will have a pile of "donation" clothes.

Oh yeah! the saggy ass syndrome. Its funny how the sizes keep on dropping and it takes your pants falling off to buy something new.

Yup! I had that encounter too. Underwear sagging, skin sagging. I thought, "Oh HE!! No, I did not walk out of the house in this!?!?". I still have issues shopping because I don't feel like I'm a 10 (from a 20), but when I go grab a pair of jeans I don't want to disappoint myself when they dont fit lol. Even my 10's are getting baggy now. It's so crazy! I don't know about you guys, but I've never been this small (maybe in middle school, that doesn't count haha). It really takes some time to get used to!

The thing that drives me the nuttiest? It's how long my pant legs have become! I can totally walk on the bottoms of some of my jeans! The skinny jeans are a little bit better but I still have this pool of material at my ankles. I look like I'm wearing my dads 6 ft plus pants!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
