Ready_For_Me_13 36 Posted November 22, 2014 I'm super excited and nervous right now. I'm trying my best to learn new eating habits before the time gets here, telling myself to slow down when eating, drinking slowly, making sure I'm exercising and all the good stuff that will be part of my life from here on out. My husband will be going after me in March, so we are looking forward to major changes for 2015. If anyone has already had their procedure and has useful advice, please feel free to dish! Best wishes to all the new sleevers!

ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted November 22, 2014 (edited) we are looking forward to major changes for 2015. @ always think its cool when i see family/friends etc have WLS together good for you on working on getting used to new habits eating slowly, drinking. etc most people start to feel different emotions prior to surgery date nervous, excitement, scared, happy and back again all normal feelings you are not alone my best advice is to always follow the "rules" with eating and drinking that invisible rule book is very important you'll get lots of help, good answers, and lots of support as you prepare for your adventure then the words of wisdom will continue it is good to listen to all advice, hear experiences et al BUT at the end of the day.............. always, always, always listen to the words of your doc/NUT (nutritionalist) (msp )they are the professionals Water rules can be hard - but must be followed (as everything else does too) stop drinking about 30 minutes before you eat never, ever, ever drink with your meals don't drink for 45-60 minutes after you eat drink at least 64 oz of Water a day many of "us" were told to never use a straw (me, me, me) many of "us" were told to never drink carbonated beverages (me, me, me) but listen to what your NUT tells you take small bites chew thoroughly over and over into teeny tiny bits put silverware down for a minute (using infants/baby silverware ie spoons) helps you eat slower and also eat from a small plate then continue to eat eat sllllllowly eat Protein first then veggies watch the carbs always measure your food keep tract of what you are eating computer site called my fitness pal (MFP) is frequently used write down every bite you eat you can also track your exercise and water there too its good to realize there might be some ups and downs more good than bad stall - horrible 5 letter word - be prepared for them to maybe happen remember that none of us are the same we all loose weight in different time periods we don't loose the same amount of weight don't get discouraged it might take one person longer to loose weight than another (works both ways) you didn't wake up one morning all of a sudden overweight loosing all that weight won't happen over night either this is a marathon, not a sprint God Grant Me Patience Just Hurry Up About It january 12th is a wonderful day for surgery you will be turning one day old i will be turning 61 years YOUNG!!!! Its my b'day silly head best of luck to you now and then hubby in march speedy, healthy recovery kathy Edited November 23, 2014 by proudgrammy

shizwiz 197 Posted November 25, 2014 @@proudgrammy LOVE that post Thank you!!! I am certain I will come back in read it over and over! @ You are SO lucky to have your husband doing it as well! My boyfriend and I are both overweight and I am the only one taking the surgery route. I am hoping that MY change will also help him, however, I am also scared that he might be a bad influence on me while trying to recover :/ YIKES! I have also heard (and have seen on youtube) alot of people get baby plates (super cute ones!) and utensils to eat with. Also, I have seen a bunch of people use children's bento boxes to pack their lunches and Snacks in for during the day- the little compartments are smaller and about 2-4 oz each. I am going to get some to use to make sure I am using the right portions when I am post-op I wish you and your husband good luck! Ta-ta for now!
Ready_For_Me_13 36 Posted November 25, 2014 @@shizwiz thanks. We both thought it would be beneficial to do it together, that we we aren't tempting each other and can truly support our new lifestyle. I'm excited and nervous at the same time, but looking forward to us doing this together and becoming healthier for the next lifetime together! I'll make sure to give updates on this site for the both of us. You are right, you may be able to encourage your boyfriend with your changes and once he sees how "fly and fine" you are getting he may be motivated a little more!
