4 weeks out & have been eating 1/2 Cup, Ooops!

Recommended Posts

Everything is so overwhelming. I drink a lot of Protein Shakes but I've been trying to get some meals in and I'v been eating 1/2 cup. I got out my guidelines and reread (they're not very well organized) and saw I'm only supposed to be eating 1/4 C until I'm 6 months out and then I can move up to 1/2 Cup. I hope I haven't stretched my pouch already. It doesn't hurt to eat that much but my nerves may not have healed yet.

Every dietician and doctor is different, but my plan was to increase from 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup at week 3 post op. Although, at this time I was still restricted from meat and raw vegetables until week 6 postop.

My doc said to eat 1/2 cup to 1 cup. I probably eat around 3/4 of a cup in most cases. I have read a dozen different protocols on here regarding what to eat, and how much. I am absolutely compliant with what I eat. I do read on here that it seems like many try to push it a bit with food choices down the road. My surgeon said they make every patients sleeve the same size. As far as stretching it out, I have to believe that you'd have to really be over eating for a bit of time to start stretching it out. I'm pretty sure that all of us on this site did that...prior to surgery...and it didn't happen overnight. I think if you are honest with yourself and eat the foods your doctor approves, don't overeat, exercise, and stay focused you will undoubtedly be successful. It may take some longer than others but it will happen.

I am 3 wks out, and from Calif. My doc said 1/4 c Water, Protein drink for 1 month. After a month I get a T Protein, 1T veggies, 1T of meat or fish or yogurt. When I read how much and how soon some of you can eat I get really jealous.

I just keep thinking slow and steady

Well I guess if you feel good and are losing it's all good. I lost 40 lbs. from my day of surgery to one month later.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
