So sorry you are going through that. I was on anti depression and anti anxiety Meds before surgery so I didn't experience that. I hope the meds work for you and you are back to helping your patients very soon. Take care of yourself!

It is a rough go to get to the point that you need meds. But I give you thumbs up for recognizing your need to get help. When i was in the hospital for 5.5 months they decided to take me off my depression meds and 2.5 months into my stay I started to slip into the dark black hole once more and began to shut down.

It was my families insistence that made them put me back on them and I started to once again build the strength it took to get through that ordeal. Having WLS is not a one dimensional thing it covers all facets of our lives and the things we truly feel about ourselves esp. when we have chosen WLS to help deal with all the issues we feel about ourselves and the fears and anxiety of what may or may not happen to us...

We know why we feel the way we do it is just that we are unable to reach deep to figure out the triggers that bring on the episodes. For some of us it is temporary until we come to grips with whatever brought it on and others are chronic like me. I will never get better. The surgery made no difference as far as my depression went. Take time to figure out why you are feeling the way you do and when the panic starts pause and think what am I thinking about or what has happened to make me panic in this way. Sometimes it is easier to get up and do something to get your thinking in another direction.

I am so hoping for you it is a temporary condition. :) Hope this helps even a little.

I hope I'm not getting to personal, but what were some contributing factors that led to your depression?

I'm sorry you're going through that. I was on antidepressants and anxiety meds before I had surgery, and I am continuing to take them. I've battled with depression and anxiety since I was about eleven years old. WLS is a huge commitment and lifestyle change. I think that no matter what we are told before surgery, certain things don't hit us until after we've had surgery and get down into the nitty-gritty of things. Things will get better for you. You just have to keep pushing. Antidepressants are a great way to keep you pushing because it balances your hormones, and helps to keep you out of that dark depressive hole. Hang in there.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
