I am trying to guage the interest of the board members in making donations to LBT to avoid ads being placed on the board.

The site has become excruciating slow since the arrival of the ads. It takes 20 seconds to go from one page to another and sometimes a couple of minutes to do a search or to post a message. The presence of the ads doesn't bother me but the decreased speed (and thus decreased functionality) does.

Yeah, it took about 5 minutes for the main page to load for me, and I use cable internet.

The Google ads don't bother me. (They're easily ignored, lol!) I just don't want the type of obnoxious advertising like OH has.

I would have to answer no to your poll, because I don't mind ad placement at all. So I would not donate to avoid ad placement. But that does not necessarily mean that I would never be willing to donate to LBT.

That's a point I had not considered. The site is definitely much slower now. That is a bit of an issue for me too.

I have a T1 connection and it's still excruciatingly slow. Damn typos.

I agree with that.

I would donate if keeping the ads was going to somehow make changes to the site.

I answered no because at this point the ads do not have a significant enough negative impact on my visits here. However, I enjoy this site and if the ads did get the point where they piss me off I would be willing to donate.

Yeah, that's part of my position, also. I don't like the prospect of rules changing to make advertisers happy.

To me, OH is a good (or bad, whichever way you want to look at it) example of that. To me, they are about making money, so they don't allow anything to disrupt that. They want to keep the maximum amount of people on the site, which is in turn good for their advertisers (resulting in OH making more money through ads), so they let stupid stuff happen. Take their censorship rules, for example. They let their members delete entire threads and refuse other members the right to post in "their" threads. If there is a post in a thread that the thread-starter doesn't like or agree with, the moderators have to remove it if they are asked.

What I am finding to be really annoying is when I post the page that comes up thanking me for posting and telling me I am being redirected to my post. That just bugs the bejeebers out of me!

Is the site still painfully slow today ? By the way....this site speed has nothing to do with the ads.

Even if we do get full-fledged ads, like the ones on OH, I would still like to donate to LBT to help manage costs. It kind of bothers me that we just sit around and talk on this site while Alex foots the bill for it (and puts up with us).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
