Soft foods stage, noodles OK?

Recommended Posts

Hi. I'll be entering soft food stage soon. I don't see noodles on any lists for post op diet. Like chicken noodle Soup or something, the noodles are mushy, is there a reason noodles can't be eaten?

My plan doesn't allow noodles because they are high carb and nutritionally worthless, but not because they might be physically damaging.

I agree. I would probably avoid noodles because they are high carbs and also Pasta seems to expand in my belly and make me uncomfortable. I'm guessing noodles might be the same way?

I made and still make my own Soup with lots of chicken, and some onion and carrots. A can of chicken broth and some poultry seaoning and I am good to go. It lasts for a couple of meals too. My doctor and dietician were 100% anti-carb. Best of luck to you!

Can't speak about the safety of them, but I agree about the carbs. I haven't touched traditional noodles (or Pasta, rice, or bread) in about a year.

Last weekend I made shrimp pad thai with theeese:

http://www2.netrition.com/sea_tangle_kelp_noodles.html (6 calories per serving, and obviously, we don't have regular sized servings - so maybe 3 calories)

http://www2.netrition.com/nooodle_angel_hair.html (0 calories! made out of pre-biotic Fiber, so they're good for you)

So even if you stay away from noodles during recovery just to be safe, you can still look forward to healthy noodles that fit in your plan. :)

These sound great!

Ok, I have a great chicken Soup Recipe if anyone interested:

Boil or bake some chicken breast and cut in small pieces

Put in pot with cut up: Onions, zuchini, yellow squash, cabbage and 1 raw jalepeno for flavor

Pour in sodium free chicken broth and simmer until done.

It's amazing...I eat it with tortillas..but since they are no longer on the menu...I think there is another kind of tortilla you can use..not sure..but with or without..the soup is great!! :D

Oh, and I usually make a big pot and put in small containers...it freezes wonderfully!!

I ate some Campbell's chicken noodle Soup two days ago, and it was amazing. My doctor said not to freak about the carbs until I am able to start eating real food. The soup helped so much to help curb my massive desire for some plain Lay's potato chips.

I made some Soup for myself this week and I ate around the noodles as best as I could. A few snuck in, I did okay with them. I didn't consume them all, of course. Left lots in my bowl but the few that I ate by mistake didn't cause me pain.

How far post op are you?

The short answer is that yes, Pasta is okay. The long answer is that Pasta and noodles are just empty carbs and not the best food choice. You can have a cup of chicken noodle Soup or chicken and wild rice soup. A lot of people have issues with pasta and bread and rice expanding in their stomachs and sitting around in there making them feel like poo. Sometimes I'll have spaghetti and meatballs, but the reality is that the meal is two meatballs and maybe one twirl of pasta. There is just no room for it in there since the primary goal is Protein.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
