Heartburn even with 40mg omeprazole?

Recommended Posts

I have been on 40mg of omeprazole daily for over 4 months and I am now 8 days post op. I haven't had heart burn since it was started. Tonight I finally felt well enough to try sleeping in bed instead of my recliner . I laid in bed for about an hour when I had to get up because my chest and throat are burning like nothing I have ever felt before. My body is in a full out sweat and I am close to vomiting because the heartburn is that bad. I am currently chewing tums down like mad trying to get this burning at least slowed down enough to at least stop sweating. Is there more my doc can do for this ? Any tips to help me get through the night? I already am sitting upright and planning to spend another night in the recliner .

switching PPI's can make a difference. It did for me. Omeprazole was changed to pantoprazole.

I have also been put on ranitidine (generic zantac) at bed time. I'm doing much better.

Hope you get some relief!

I'm in the same boat with you... just posted my situation here. Following your thread to see if others bring more suggestions. I'm sorry you are going thru this.

This is the exact reason I joined the site. The 40 of omeprazole is not doing it for me. I used to take ranitidine pre surgery but switched and now I hate it. thinking of switching back or adding ranitidine. Thanks for the info :)

Do you make sure you don't lay down for several hours after your last meal? Sorry for the elementary question.
