JUST STARTING MY GASTRIC SLEEVE JOURNEY....ADVICE APPRECIATED.

Recommended Posts

I'm one of those that has always struggled with weight, in fact the first time I was on a diet was Weight Watchers in the 4th grade. I'm now 38 and in the last 28 years I've been on all of them, most more than once or twice and I'm finally at the point where I can say I'm done. Vanity aside, the panting walking up a flight of steps, achy ankles and knees, high blood pressure to name a few. I looked into the lap band about a year ago but ultimately I decided on the sleeve as a better option for me. I'm in NYC and having my surgery with Dr. Christine Ren. Just had my first of 4 appointments, so most likely wont be eligible for surgery until February. I really liked her and she seems to have a great bedside manner which I appreciated. I'd love to hear advice, pre and post surgery, benefits, cons, anything at all is appreciated! NYC here.

I am five months out. My loss has been slow. Still, I don't regret it for a minute and I only wish I had done this when I was your age. Of course there are huge adjustments, and like everything in life there are the pluses and minuses..

I'm almost done all if my requirements to get my insurance approval and a date. I'm hoping for January. This forum has shown me a lot. You get to see this journey from all sides. The good the bad abs the ugly. I think....I know you will absolutely find it useful. It will provoke questions for you to ask your surgical team as well.

God bless you on your journey!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
