Confession re: Loving Myself

Recommended Posts

I am sort of upset and disappointed with myself. After years and years of struggling with horrible events and things in my life, some where along the line, I stopped loving myself. All of those things caused me not to shut down and not love "Me". Why did it take me losing 50 pounds for me to start loving myself again? Don't get me wrong. I love the changes and look forward to more to come but I am upset and disappointed in myself for not thinking I was worthy of my own love when I was 50 pounds heavier. I don't even know if this makes sense. Sorry. Just venting.

This is really interesting I feel the same way. I have not lost 50 yet but 30 and I am feeling like Im worth more and seem happier when I look in the mirror. I cant wait till the next 30 come off to see the difference and if I become even more confident.

It's the past, let it go. Forgive yourself for forgetting to love you first. You've made corrections to that and from now on promise yourself that you won't forget again.

Don't discount the fact that when you were heavier, you felt exhausted, and likely defeated and depressed. When you begin to feel better physically, your mood and outlook can improve. That is my experience anyway. I feel hopeful and proud of myself for the first time in a very long time. Don't fret over what was. Embrace the present and look forward to your bright and healthy future.

What's funny to me is that I haven't been sleeved yet but because I made the choice to go through with it and I am actually taking the steps to get it done, I feel like I'm putting more of a spotlight on myself. I rarely finish anything I start (except food ????????) but I've decided I'm worth more than that. So I totally understand what you are saying. It makes perfect sense. Lack of love for self is what got a lot of us to this point. Self love will get you to goal!

God bless!!

Yes. This is a huge thing for me. There were some messages sent to me in my life that I was unloveable. I internalized those and used food and overeating as a way to create something I hated. This journey has been about finding out that I have to love myself before I can really love anyone else. And about realizing that I deserve good things! And to stop abusing myself with food! If you haven't already, I highly recommend reading "When food is Love." It helped me a ton and has changed my life!

You've got it all backwards. Losing weight and getting healthy is an ACT of self love. You've begun treating yourself with love and love is what you are getting in return from your body.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
