Hello! December 1 Surgery Date - Scared buy determined.....

Recommended Posts

After researching and scheduling the various pre-surgery appointments, I am a go for gastric sleeve surgery on Monday, December 1. I have a BMI of 60. I have never had any surgery before. I am fairly terrified of the surgery and possible complications but I had to do something. And I wasn't able to do it on my own.

I started my pre-op liquid diet on Monday. 2 weeks. I am starving and dealing with the mental issues of not eating. Or not eating what I want.

I have been hear a few times to read posts but this is my first post. I am glad I found it. My family and friends are being tremendously supportive but I don't think anybody can truly understand like somebody in the same boat. So thank you for having me in your boat!

While any surgery is scary, the alternative is scarier!

It's done laproscopically now, so it's less stress on your body.

This was only my 3rd surgery...gall bladder and hysterectomy previously...all within 5 years.

I was more excited than nervous when I was scheduled as I truly believed in my decsion and how my new tool would help me.

Very little problems (dehydration...but that was on me...but it wasn't severe)

The first few days of the pre-op liquid diet are the worst as your body de-toxes...but it should be easier and you get closer.

Also you can go to InsureNutrition.com to see if you qualify for Protein shakes, Vitamins and scar cream all covered by your insurance.

We are here to help you...but trust in the program! It is the best thing I EVER did for ME!

I was really nervous going into it too, and I had previously had two c-sections and my gall bladder removed. I had surgery last Thursday (11/13) and I was questioning my decision for the first couple days after, but not any more. I'm feeling more normal and looking forward to the months/years to come!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
