I'm sure she'll give me much more detailed info at my appt on Friday. I'm just trying to wrap my head around it ahead of time. :)

Oh I see! I'm glad to hear that. That's so awesome that you're so forward-thinking. You're going to do so well!

I am still only 5 days post op, but once I get to purees, I'm going to make some beef stew in the crockpot with lean meat and cook it until the meat and veggies are really really soft - throw it in the blender with a little beef broth and purée until silky smooth! So excited to taste real food again ???? soon!

@@dashofsunshine - I did that. Just make sure you thin down the beef stew puree. My first time making my beef stew puree was a little thick. Oh my sleeve told me so and quick! It was 45 minutes of pain and various other stuffs going on. Once I thinned it, I was good to go.

Thanks for the tip!!! That would suck to make it too thick and be in pain!!! I will be sure to thin it down really well ????

My list of acceptable food for purees was high Protein only - basically any kind of meat (but it had to be pureed with a food processor), eggs, refried Beans, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, limited amounts of nut butters such as Peanut Butter and almond butter. No vegetables, no fruit, and certainly nothing with grains.

My list of puree/soft foods is similar to some things listed above but included toast, my NUT appointment is tomorrow so I want to ask about that.

Any soft, non skinned vegetables that can be mashed up, fruit in juice already (preferably sugar free), sugar free pudding, greek yogurt, tuna, chicken salad, egg (egg salad), continue Protein shakes, refried Beans etc.

Thanksgivings looking like mashed sweet potatoes for me! The PA at the surgeon said please please dont try turkey even with gravy it is really dry and with my hernia repair as well she can almost promise me it would be a bad idea unless I want to blend it. Which I can not handle the texture of food pureed (not even creamy soups) needless to say the past two weeks with just Clear liquids have been straight broth and water/crystal light.

I'm nearly 5 weeks post-op. I'm surprised you had so few days on liquids, clear or full. My program was 3 post-op days on clear fluids, and then 21 days (3 weeks) on full fluids. Then a gradual change over to pureed foods. I kind of had to go my own way, as for whatever reason I could not tolerate any form of Protein shake after the surgery. They were all too heavy. Doc said he thought it could be the whey Protein, and said it wasn't uncommon for a patient to have that problem. He suggested a different form of protein or that I make my own shakes with Greek yogurt or cottage cheese, and fruit. I tried that for a while when the alternate forms of protein didn't stay down either. Now I'm sort of alternating between pureed food and soft solids. I'm having a bit of trouble with most foods, what works one day, doesn't the next. The refried Beans were the worst. Even really thinned out they were way too heavy for my belly. Most mornings I try to eat some Greek yogurt, I'm finally having some flavored yogurt, I was getting really sick of plain vanilla. Lunchtime I try to eat either Soup, or leftovers from dinner the night before (my fridge is chock full of leftovers because I eat so little). Some of the things I eaten are chicken salad (turns out raw onion is a no-no now), the tuna salad didn't agree with me. I don't care for egg salad but that would be a good choice. Scrambled, soft and hard boiled eggs are all good choices. I've had some chicken florentine from a restaurant recently (lightly cooked chicken breast and spinach with a garlic cream sauce over it), I also had a small piece of grilled chicken breast and mashed potatoes from KFC. Last night I had a grilled chicken breast with a baked potato and light sour cream. Of course all of this stuff has been a couple of bites a piece. Over the weekend I tried 3 small bites of a ground up meatball in sauce, and that was a disaster. My stomach was upset for hours. Cream of broccoli Soup (blended up a little bit) was fantastic, and canned cream of Tomato Soup was really good too (I used Healthy Request Cambells mixed with Skim Plus milk for the extra protein). I hope some of this helps. My written meal plan lists the following: plain yogurt (low fat or fat free), Greek yogurt; 3oz pureed fish, turkey or chicken; pureed low fat cottage cheese (I used the small curd and didn't need to blend it); scrambled eggs (add a little milk or powdered milk for extra protein); pureed vegetables; pureed fruit (without skins) limited to one serving a day; or a Protein Shake as a Meal Replacement.

I have actual suggestions (from written meal plan from doctor) if you need more info. I also have some recipes that I found on line and some other websites you could check out. I'll send them to you privately if you'd like. Please share stuff you find as well. I always knew this stage was going to be the most challenging. Take care of yourself and good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
