sophie'sChoice 269 Posted November 19, 2014 Mine was at my 1 week post-op check. It was with 2 different solutions, one thinner than the other. Both were quite vile But it was cool to watch them go down!
jcal8 2 Posted November 20, 2014 I don't recall ever having one and I'm 9 months out.
Camarolegend 185 Posted November 22, 2014 Mine was before I left the hospital. It was pretty cool. I got to watch the monitor while that nasty tasting liquid travelled through my system.

BeagleLover 1,020 Posted November 29, 2014 It's possible to have had the leak test without drinking anything or being aware of it. I read the surgery report e-mailed to me and found that they pushed the stapled edge into liquid and see if there are any bubbles. I never had to drink anything. Kindle 8,667 Posted November 29, 2014 My surgeon did 3 leak tests.... 1) was done in surgery. The anesthesiologist filled my sleeve with air as the surgeon submerged my sleeve in saline, looking for bubbles. 2) was the drain I had for 3 days. Both internal Bleeding and leakage can be assessed by what the Fluid coming out of the drain looks like. 3) was a barium swallow fluoroscopy 3 days postop (after pulling the drain) I had to swallow a radio opaque fluid while we watching on the display. It was very cool to watch it go down my esophagus, through my sleeve and into my intestines. This procedure also shows the shape and size of the sleeve as well as any leaks, strictures and GI transit time.
athena3127 199 Posted November 29, 2014 My dr does a leak check during surgery. Then a follow up check the next morning with the barium. All done before one can have any liquid. Prior to the barium leak check I was allowed one ounce ice chips only every hour.
