I had surgery October 15th. With preop dirty and 2 weeks after, I lost 40 pounds pounds. Since then, the scale has not moved at all. It has been 2 1/2 weeks. I get my Protein in everyday and try to get all my liquids in. I'm scared to death that I am someone who the surgery will not work for. I am eating so much less but its not showing on the scale. I have done research on the 3 week stall but do they last 2 1/2 weeks? I am so upset about this! I have so much more to lose and it seems I have plateaued already. Anyone have advice? Thanks!

I know it's hard but stop looking at the scale. Seriously, it's going to make you crazy. Instead focus on getting your Protein in, drinking your Water and exercising as much as you can. Your body is undergoing a major change and it will take a minute to settle in. The weight will come off, it really will.

good for you that you read about the 3 week stall :)

the stall can and does last for a bit - no specific time period

hopefully it will be over with sooner than later :)

you are doing great with your Water, Protein

40 lbs down!! :)

keep up the good work :)

From the pre-op diet and the first week, I had lost around 15 pounds at my 1 week checkup. At my 2 week checkup, I was UP 6 pounds! I was devastated and thought the same things you're thinking now. But after about another 2 weeks, things changed for the better. I'm now 10 weeks out and have lost 56 pounds. Just hang in there and trust the process. It really does work!

One of the smartest things someone in my support group told me was to forget the scale and go by how your clothes feel. If they are getting looser and you drop a size or two, then you're on the right track. I've heard the stall can last a long time in some cases (everyone is different), but that doesn't mean you are not getting healthier and changing to better habits in the meantime. You knew going in that this procedure was far different than the gastric bypass, so you know the pounds are not going to melt off in a month or two. The sleeve option is much slower than the bypass option. So sit back, relax, and enjoy your 40 pound weight loss to this point...and enjoy your healthy new lifestyle.

My weight loss was just a series of stalls! It seemed like I would never get to goal! Guess what? I did reach my goal and am maintaining. The process works, just give it time. Stay away from the scales, they will make you crazy.

Yes, what Susan said. You are going to stall. And then you are going to lose some weight. You might even gain a lb or two. Then you'll lose a couple more lbs. And a couple more. Then you'll stall (or plateau if you prefer?). The weight loss road is one with lots of dips, potholes twists and turns. It's not the new super highway that fast tracks your weight loss. It's bumpy and certainly not straight!

Thanks everyone for the support! I braved the scale today at 7 weeks out and lost 11 pounds. I haven't been on it since this post so I'm not sure how long my stall was, but man they play games with your head! I just kept doing what I was doing, because what else can I do? And it paid off finally! I know this won't be my last stall but sure hoping I won't have one for a while! Thanks again!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
