I went to an OA meeting today simply as a requirement for a psych class I'm taking but i met people there that have also had Lap band like me so I'm wondering if any of you have tired going to OA ?

I did OA HOW several several years ago. I lost 140#. I've gained back all but 60 of those. I'm thinking OA combined with a surgical tool could be very effective for the truly metabolically challenged. You can message me if you want to chat.

My PCP sent me to one once,...I have tried everything over the years to loose weight and nothing worked for me short of Lap band surgery.

But there were many people there who had amazing success stories.

I just do not have the will power or discipline to loose weight on my own.

I was thinking of starting to go to OA and try it out along with the nutritionists support group at my surgeons. I lost 120 pounds on my own but gained it back. I'm down 35 so far with the band. I just want to lose another 50 and I'd be satisfied!!!!

I lost 130 pounds in OA 25 years ago but then got married, dropped the program, returned to binge eating, and gained it all back.

I was banded in March this year and rejoined OA in August. It is helping me immensely.

I also began attending Codependents Anonymous this year.

Life without excess food, my drug of choice, is hard. These programs help me learn new coping mechanisms.

Good luck.

I did not know there was such a thing as OA! This is very intriguing to me. I will have to see if there are any meetings in my area. I have a band and have strugled off and on over the years. I think I would benefit from it! Thanks for sharing information!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
