@@nmsugirl06 I have BCBS fed and all I had to do was list the diets I had tried. Do you have to do the 3 month supervised "diet" check in with the nutritionist once a month for 3?

Weight watchers?

Why do insurance companies ask these questions? It's really so stupid. As if you would gain all this weight and never once try to diet and then say Let me have surgery!!!

Yes I have done 2 of my nutritional visits out of 3. I'm doing a low carb low sugar ketogenic diet with moderate excercise since last month and have lost 1.7 lbs :(

@@nmsugirl06 Will they count that as one? Thats so odd that they would want two supervised diets in one year from you. How many people actually do that? Most of us try to diet on our own. I never would have been approved if that were the case.

@@nmsugirl06 Have you called BCBS and asked them what your exact requirements are? If not you should defiantly do that. Most surgeons deal with multiple insurance companies so it's good to know your insurance process. Maybe that will help with your frustrations. Ask them all the questions you have. Make sure they clarify everything you need to know. I hope that helps.

Hi nmsugirl06. I have bcbs federal basic, too. Here is a link to the brochure that will tell you exactly what your requirements are. http://www.fepblue.org/en/benefit-plans/benefit-plans-brochures-and-forms/#tab-brochures When you get to the web page, use the link to the "2015 Blue Cross and Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan Brochure", and go to page 63 of the pdf file. To be brief, I had to do a 3 month physician supervised diet, a psych evaluation, and only one visit with a licensed dietician. Also, the morbid obesity diagnosis for 2 yrs only required a copy of one of my doctor's notes (PCP) for 2012 and one for 2013 that showed my weight was in the range to classify me as morbidly obese. The rest of the requirements are pretty much self explanatory. Best of luck to you.

@@EllieMae Same as mine. Only I chose to do my check-ins with a nutritionist instead of a DR.
