12 says post op, best I've felt, yet regret I did it

Recommended Posts

Today's the first day I'm not nauseous, pain is tolerable, and feel pretty good. Issue is, as of Saturday I'm constantly starving. Wtf. Only reason for these surgeries are to allow us to eat a reduced calorie set and not feel hungry, hence weight loss. I have taken my antacids, got my Protein minimums and Fluid minimums. Even after finishing a feeding I am still starving. If it's this "head" hunger then what's the difference, body is still sending a starving signal so sure feels like I'm hungry as all get out. All I keep thinking of is how I ate a lot better and lost rapid weight on the preop diet and I should have just not had the surgery and stuck to that. Sigh. Just finished a Jello and will try and have some more broth. But not satiated in between feedings

It will get better when you get to actual food, especially protein.

Look, step far away from the regret. Did you? Good. It's wasted energy, and will only serve to make you feel worst about this wonderful decision you made to get healthy. So, it will get 100% better, soon. For the first ten days I was allowed Water and broth. Period. I felt like a wet rag. On day eleven I drank some skim milk. OMG! You would of thought I ate a full course meal! My body responded both physically and mentally. So, IT WILL GET 100% BETTER, SOON. Best.

Ditto to the above posts - It does get better. A LOT BETTER! Hang in there. Just wait until the weight starts dropping, hopefully you will feel different.

I am.losing weight but starving. I start puree foods Friday so we will see. All my research in hadn't come across feeling hungry after the surgery. I just thought we get so full from such small amounts. A few days ago had trouble getting much down. Now seems like i can't get enough to curb the hunger. Today I had two 4 oz serving of Protein Shakes, two 8 oz servings of Protein enriched blended cream Soup and 3 Jello cups. Just finished another jello cup and still starving.

I'll say what everyone else is saying: Patience. It's not a magic wand so none of this occurs overnight. You've made surgical change to your body and now your mind and body have to adjust. You will learn to control the head hunger. The early days can be the most challenging. Hang in there. Try to listen to the physical indicators your new belly is giving you.

I echo lipstick lady. You may need a change in ppi

But wait until Monday. See if the purées make it better. Try mash sweet potatoes, cottage cheese, something firmer than blended Soups

If that makes you feel fuller keep track of times. If you're hungry more than every 2/3 hours you'll need a better ppi

Did you get to watch your leak test? I did. It was amazing to see the liquid go straight through my stomach. It helped me understand that liquids are not going to do much to fill me up. As soon as I started puréed food I noticed the restriction. Just be sure you don't drink during or up to 30 min after eating or you'll flush you food right through your stomach and won't stay full.

I've accidentally drank too close to eating and it causes EVERYTHING to come up in a spectacular encore presentation.

Every doc is so different. ..im only 7 days post op and already allowed pureed. And I didn't have the strict pre-op diet either. I think its normal to have moments of regret. I think that comes with all change. You have to find your new rythum.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
