High Protein Low Fat Foods?

Recommended Posts

So, what do you eat everyday?

I am weaning off liquids and moving to solids. If I get Protein, I seem to also get a lot of fat. So I'm wondering, what kind of foods do you eat to keep the calories and fat low, but the protein high?

Any tips would be great! Thanks!

It's my non-expert opinion (as someone who has lost 112 pounds and maintained for the last 6 months) that you don't need to worry about fat. Fat is not the enemy.

High Protein, low carb is your answer.

cheese, eggs, almonds, beef Jerky, lean meats, fatty meats (within reason!), hummus, greek yogurt (if you can stand it)...

Lots of great choices out there, but I would urge you to eat REAL food. When you cut the fat, sugar is added. Sugar is not your friend. Your portions are so limited now, the fuller fat will keep you full and satisfied longer.

Research it. You will see that most high Protein diets don't count fat, too. I know it's weird, but it works.

So true, I was going to put in fat free Mayonnaise on my tuna yesterday. I watched this new documentary called "Fed Up" (released earlier this year) which highlights how much sugar and extra processed ingredients are in fat free or low fat foods. Its more of an attack on Big food for sweetening us to death. I had no idea how much corporate influence there was over school lunches. I will not let my child drink chocolate milk again (or at least not everyday during school lunch), that is for sure.

Anyway, the film does get you into the practice of looking at food labels. And yes, the fat free mayonnaise was loaded with sugar!

sure.

My mainstays for meat based Protein are pork loin and chicken breast (or a whole rotissery chicken - Sam's club has them for $5, can't beat that!) My diet is pretty simple, it mainly consists of baked pork loin mixed with lentils, onions, garlic and beef bullion.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
