I start my pre op diet on the 25th!!! How many of you shoved food down knowing you wouldn't be able to for awhile? Lol because I'm considering it but nervous because I dont want to gain weight back that I've lost due to having to for insurance.

Oh I did . I don't even eat McDonalds normally but my "last fat meal" was a Big Mac and large fry . I don't know why I picked that out of all the food but it just seemed "right"'. I was having Mini food funerals for about two weeks though. Of course now none of those foods are appealing. I didn't have to lose weight though. In fact I had to gain 8lbs in order to qualify mainly due to my height since I had no comorbidities.

heck yeah i did

i ate normally right up to the day i started pre op..

talk about a eye opener....found out what head hunger is and that its real

but it also showed me i am stronger mentally then i gave myself credit for...WE all are.

you can eat things you like in the future, just not as much and once you see how

much better you feel, buying smaller clothes etc, you may not want tooo

hang in there

"Last supper" was too many servings of fish fry for me. Wasn't worth the indigestion. But the instinct is normal. Pre op Clear Liquids was tough. Glad it was only five days. I also lost 13 pounds that week.

Yep - same here! Before the pre-op diet I ate a big ol' burger with all the toppings and fries. I also had a chinese food funeral, and I forget, I think there was one other food type that I indulged in. But I still lost about 5 pounds in the couple months before pre-op and then about 15 on the 2-week pre-op. After surgery I was really glad I'd done that. It helped me to feel less deprived later.

YES!! So yesterday I started my pre op diet. During the afternoon, I sat in my chair I closed my eyes to take a quick nap. I counted the days in my head till surgery and to my ABSOLUTE DELIGHT I realized my diet didn't start till today!! Needless to say, I hit the fridge preety fast!

I too have no comorbidities I just barley met the standards. But I'm still eating healthy but like ive been eating the stuff I bake for the kids and husband when I usually dont. Ik my last meal will be pretty greasy haha just have to decide between fried chicken or pizza!!!!!

My last supper was my absolute favorite! Spaghetti and meatballs. I figured I might never see spaghetti again and I wanted to say goodbye. Pasta is definitely a trigger food for me.

I never even considered "cheating" on the pre op diet. I knew that the purpose was to shrink my liver to make surgery safest for me. I was absolutely going to have the best best possible outcome and recovery.

I also knew once I decided to move forward with something, I have a ton of will power and can do anything. I feel like I fought too hard and it was important to keep my eye on the prize.

I am 7 weeks post op. I have dropped 4 clothing sizes, off all diabetes meds and off many other meds. I am not stopping for anything. I have not felt this good in years!

You can do this! The first couple days are the hardest. Keep your eye on the prize!

Good luck and keep us posted!

I had a small panic attack when I thought about all the food I WASN'T going to be able to eat. But then I had to summon my inner pimp and Pimp Slap myself to remind me that I would be able to eat again and the whole point of surgery was to STOP me from eating large amounts of food.

It took about 2 days once it was in their systems, however my Drs. office sent it certified returned receipt and they actually received it 2 weeks prior to that.

The only required a letter of "medical neccesity" from the Drs. office.

I kept calling Humana but they will NOT tell you anything over the phone. It wasn't until I received a letter in the mail, my Drs. office received one as well.

Humana Rocks!!! tongue.gif

Ty (: I agree. I also want to have a very safe surgery! Ill def keep posting. I'm so ready for this change! I have been big m whole life. Never had any medical problems so I'm lucky in that sense but I loathe being so unhappy with myself. I looked into surgery for a couple years before I even went to see the doc. And then I got pregnant and after I had the baby I went back right away! And that's how I got approved for surgery because right after I had him my bmi was over 40 but before it was 38 so I was almost there anyways. I'm scared in some ways and ik its going to take time to adjust but I feel it's a great choice to a better life

Lol I love how you worded that! I've had people tell me oh no dont do it you cant eat this and that and blah blah. And I just shrug. They dont even know that yes I will be able to eat what they do just littler portions. And smaller bites.

I had many many food funerals. So many in fact that I made myself sick and couldn't eat anything the actual day before my pre-op diet.

Here's the great thing though. I'm almost two years post-op and am able to eat all of it again. However...I choose to do so sparingly. I had Chinese food last night. First time I ordered it in since before my surgery. Nothing special...wonton Soup and pepper steak. But because it's been so long, I enjoyed it immensely...and there is so much left over, I can easily portion out and freeze a half dozen more meals out of it and eat it for weeks to come.

So because I eat certain foods occasionally and more important...slowly now...I enjoy it so much more than when I used to shovel it in my face without really tasting it.

@@susancae Ah yes what @@gowalking said! My hubs and I the DAY we decided we were going to have this surgery also decided we were going to tie on a couple of bibs and start mourning our food.

We did that for a day or so, and as Liz said...I was sick to my stomach and had an epiphany! What the hell were we doing?! We were going to have WLS to make our lives better!!!! We weren't going to the electric chair!!

Cheesecake would be there after surgery too!! So would Key Lime Pie, Steak, Taco's and Spinach dip! The best part about them today...I actually ENJOY eating them!!! Before I would devour the cake before I even knew I had taken a bite of it....what did it taste like? I have NO idea, I just know it was gone...and maybe I needed another so I could tell you how it tasted!

Today...I enjoy the "idea" of the cake before it even arrives, I enjoy the aroma of it and if it's garnished with strawberry I enjoy them as well. I enjoy the texture and flavor and I can tell you if it's a NY cheesecake or not! IMO Brooklyn still has the corner on cheese cake.

My point is that yep I eat it again but now I only have a quarter of the slice I share with my husband or friend and that's IF we can fit it or even want it after eating a meal.

So hubs and I focused on what pre-op testing would mean to us...and for me I'm PICKY. I don't like the taste of things, and drinking things that smell bad or have a nasty texture to me...well it's not gonna happen. You should see the dance and faces and howling that goes on over cough medicine!! I try REALLY hard NOT to get sick!

So I started "sampling" shakes and Protein bars..and when we found one we liked we started weeks before our actual pre-op and replaced a meal at a time until we were in full pre-op diet mode. That made it much easier for me because I had a plan.

Do you have a plan? If that makes you more comfortable like it did for me...work on it write it out, put reminders in your phone what ever works for you...and I wish you all the best!!!! You can do it!!! and you will eat again just remember that in the back of your mind...:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
