Thinking of getting fill after 2 1/2 years!

Recommended Posts

Hello! Ive had my band for 8 years. Orginally lost 116 lbs. Never had any real problems with it. 2 1/2 years ago the doctor opted to unfill me d/t constant nausea and vomiting with my pregnacy. I gained 30lbs during my pregnancy and have manadged to lose about 20lbs back. I really need to lose about 40 more lbs to be at my goal weight. Although i never had any issues before with my band im worried now about getting a fill again because ive been just eating whatever i felt like for the last couple years. Anyone else go through something simliar? How has it worked out getting filled and back on the "band" wagon!?

I was banded in 2009 and initially did well. I had a slip and another surgery. Then in 2012 I had a serious illness (unrelated to the band) and was completely unfilled. Due to my medical condition, my surgeon did not want to do any fills tilli was off treatment. So I regained all 80lbs I had lost plus another 40lbs. My health has improved and in february of this year he started making adjustments. It took several appts but I finally hit my "sweet spot" in June and have lost 40lbs! It hasn't been too bad. When I first began having fills again it was a little frustrating trying to find that sweet spot but overall, it has gone well. Good luck to you!

I just scheduled my appointment to do the same thing. I am very nervous. The last time I went for a fill, a little over a year ago, I was over filled. I had to go to the emergency room on Saturday morning for saline removal because i couldn't swallow my own spit and I was completely swollen. It took days for everything to return to normal. But I've been slowly gaining and gaining. I can eat pretty much anything I want. I need the control back. Good luck to you! I hope you do whatever works out for the best!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
